I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Hell yeah I be damned if I buy a car that is built by a japanese car maker too...
Me I give a [bleep] same folks talking [bleep] go to Walmart and buy stuff all the time. I buy one or two of these model 70's like to find a stainless 7-08 for my wife and kid.
If the American workers weren't such turds maybe the model 70 would never been sent to Portugal for final assembly.

You make a good point there.

Don't forget that Kimber synthetic stocks are made in Costa Rica so buying a Kimber is sending money to Costa Rica

The only thing keeping me from getting a current manufacture model 70 is the fact I can't get one chambered for 7x57 or .280.

Editions (non Portugal), with beautiful wood. One of the shot show editions last year (Portugal) was offered in 7x57. They're out there....however no .280's yet.

Any chance anyone can post a picture of what's stamped on the barrel now? Thanks Here you go... with a couple of extras.

It definitely is. It hurts to send this one back, but I can't buy them all... I do own one of the FN Featherweight guns made in South Carolina, and it shoots as good as this one.

Don't worry about assembly in Portugal it is just like your ford or dodge that was assembled in Mexico or your toyota that was assembled in the USA. Your lgs or who ever you buy the gun from is still making something off the rifle just like the car dealers. Unfortunately this is how it is now a global economy maybe all the jobs will come back someday but likely not:(

I was wondering when someone would post. I like the Kimber but the Winchester just looks and feels good. Glad to hear the quality is good. Might have to get it...
I would love it if they were still made and assembled here, but as said in 2015 look how many vehicles will still be able to be called US made, I think it's down to 10 now.
Good Shooting!
