I have been on the edge now for some time on buying a 300WSM and was at SWH and saw a Winchester Model 70 that looked like an extreme weather but had color on the Bell and Carlson stock. It is one of the Portugal versions but the fit and action felt great. Price is the same as the Extreme Weather but my question is are they good? Anyone have one? Seemed nice and have been comparing to another Kimber.

Thanks....

I picked up a Portugal extreme weather .243 a few months ago. I have not shot it much just to sight it in. It appears to be the same quality as my South Carolina extreme weather .308. I will have the .243 rebarreled to .260 before next fall though.

The Kimber is the better rifle...

I had a GF from Brazil and I never could understand what she was talking about but I liked listening to her talk...

I just finished a review of the Model 70 Ultimate Shadow Hunter SS in 30-06 (parts made in the U.S., assembled in Portugal). I had a hard time finding anything to pick on. Best groups were one ragged hole with Fed 165 gr. trophy copper loads.

Some don't care for the MOA trigger, but I had no issue with it other than the fact that adjustment is a bit of pain because you have to clear out some factory-applied gunk. Otherwise, if I didn't already have "enough" rifles chambered in 30-06, this one would be joining the collection.

Found the same thing on my Fwt 22-250...adjusting the trigger cause of the gunk was a pain, but otherwise......

My South Carolina-made Fwt also shoots tiny little groups, albeit in .270. I suspect Ingwe's is just like mine. He just can't admit it's in... 2.....7.....0.

Why not? You need to match your wardrobe...

Adding a.270 would be like hanging out with the star Linebacker of the Football team....tough, quick and death to anything it touches

That would just ooze good taste in your gun cabinet

Looked at one the other day at Cabelas and was very favorably impressed. I'm planning to buy a .308 as soon as I sell one of my other rifles and the Winchester is in the top two I'm considering.

I'd buy the Kimber before sending Portugal my money. Browning can kiss my azz..

Hell yeah I be damned if I buy a car that is built by a japanese car maker too...

Me I give a [bleep] same folks talking [bleep] go to Walmart and buy stuff all the time. I buy one or two of these model 70's like to find a stainless 7-08 for my wife and kid.

If the American workers weren't such turds maybe the model 70 would never been sent to Portugal for final assembly.

Don't forget that Kimber synthetic stocks are made in Costa Rica so buying a Kimber is sending money to Costa Rica

The only thing keeping me from getting a current manufacture model 70 is the fact I can't get one chambered for 7x57 or .280.

They do make them in 7x57. I have two of the Cabelas Ltd. Editions (non Portugal), with beautiful wood. One of the shot show editions last year (Portugal) was offered in 7x57. They're out there....however no .280's yet.

It definitely is. It hurts to send this one back, but I can't buy them all... I do own one of the FN Featherweight guns made in South Carolina, and it shoots as good as this one.

Don't worry about assembly in Portugal it is just like your ford or dodge that was assembled in Mexico or your toyota that was assembled in the USA. Your lgs or who ever you buy the gun from is still making something off the rifle just like the car dealers. Unfortunately this is how it is now a global economy maybe all the jobs will come back someday but likely not:(

I was wondering when someone would post. I like the Kimber but the Winchester just looks and feels good. Glad to hear the quality is good. Might have to get it...

I would love it if they were still made and assembled here, but as said in 2015 look how many vehicles will still be able to be called US made, I think it's down to 10 now.

Good Shooting!
