I use my old 250-3000 for deer during early doe season,and I'm really pleased with my 100 grain loads of 40 grains H4350 and Speer Hotcor seated at 2.50 oal.My cases never get stuck,and my primers look good,but I have to sharply snatch the lever open which is no big deal to me,.I don't feel that it's dangerious,but I wonder if it's normal,and do any of you deal with it,or do you down load till the lever opens with almost no resistance.

250-3000 is a pretty forgiving case, with a pretty good body taper, so your process of needing to snap the lever open IS an indication of high case pressure.

If it were my gun, and face, I would load down a bit, and be happy with good old-school performance. Get some 87g hot-cores moving along at 2900, and I bet the deer will still fall down.

What Jeff said! Are your primers FLAT ( I mean Really flat) after firing? Have you run a sample (5 rounds) through Chrono screens? A Chrono and looking at the Case head after firing can tell you a lot about your loads. -TomT

I never push my loads. any critter you shoot will never feel the difference 100fps makes. NEVER

No my primers look good,and most of the brass I'm using is on about the 7th,or 8th load.I always do the paper clip test,and have had no issues with separation.I'm almost out of 100s,but I still have several boxes of 87 grain hot-cors.It groups the 87s really well with about any load I've tried,but I've kinda settled on 36.8 grains CFE223 at 2.47 OAL.I don't have a chrono,but I figure it probaly makes well over 3,000 fps,and it shoots nice tight groups,and the lever dosn't require the quick jerk to open .When my 100s are gone I'm not buying any more.I think the extra speed in the 87s will make them just as deadly as the 100s

I have a .243 in good condition that does the same thing with SOME (Federal and Winchester) factory ammo. It shoots bad in it anyway. Remington extracts like butter and is way more accurate in the gun.I would say you are too hot.

I have several boxes of old Remington pointed soft points 100 grain that shoot really well ,they must be a REALLY short bullet because they are only 2.44 OAL..I'm a little concerned about their age though.My Dad bought them years ago when the old Western Auto closed down,and auctioned off their merchandise .Most have the price tag of $12 dollars,and one,or two have $10 dollar tags.I have been using them as my source for brass,but I would use them for hunting if I knew the hadn't lost their zip.I know a neighbor down the road with a chrono that I'm sure he would let me borrow I should check them out

I push my loads to top velocities, not over max, but top, because some of where I hunt I can shoot long and it helps gain range. Not really thinking of extra knockdown power, but flatter trajectory matters on long shots.

You Can avoid top if you just buy the heat sinking Bullets-Lazer Guided!
