Another odd one. What do you think about this forearm? I'm not going to speculate, just throw it up for comment. 24" barrel...

Buttstock matches rifle, fore arm has no number. Is not factory drilled and tapped for scope. I do not have the #.

You have one of these don't you?

Your pictures don't have a lot of detail, but tt looks like it could be a wartime RT forearm. Most of the RTs have 22" barrels, but I think some have shown up with 24".

That's what I thought. The only thing I'm concerned about is that the forearm is so much oversized where it meets the receiver, that doesn't look factory fit, but everything else points to it being factory. I'm working on the serial number.

The serial number will tell you a lot. If it's in the 430,000 range, than I'd say RT.

Thanks so much for the quick replies. The RT was not factory drilled then?

No, not factory drilled. They're too early for that.

Forearm has no number?

Would guess it's a replacement. Looks RT to me, so probably factory made.

That is a crummy fit. Don't forget that these rifles were made during the Great Depression and that some variation in style may be more credited to a need for manufacturing expediencies rather than intentional design.

510,000 wasn't made during the great depression

And many of the guns made during the great depression were some of the highest quality guns Savage ever made.

Just sayin...

It certainly looks like a crummy fit to me. Not the usual workmanship.

It's a crummy fit because it is a replacement fitted by some hacker in his garage.

Nothing ever left the factory that way, I can assure you.
