Guess you started a new one!
Have to admit this muley did NOT have a rifle with him until I walked up and put it there. Otherwise, it's how he was found:

Yep Tanner, that sheep pic got me thinking of a thread like this. What the heck, here's another of this buck taking a power nap. Not too often I connect with much that's photo-worthy but this buck was a beauty, just not too bright as he should've went back to bed about 20 minutes earlier. Take care.

His last thought was, WTF was that?
I almost always take a pic of where they fell. It's a habit.

This morning my pal and I headed out to a good elk area.. Only cows were legal.. One shot with the .375 H & H put this one on the ground.. At about 300+ yards the 260 Accubond did a fine job.
My pal could have dropped another, but he elected not to. He is mostly a horn hunter.. We were loaded and on the way out by 9:00.
On the way in, he shot a big old coyote with his .300 wea.. Made him happier than an elk.. Usually, it would make me happier too.

It has one point on the main beam, but I thought he was still a cool looking buck with the saber-like beam. I figured it was a good buck to shoot with the old model 70...

He's a lot more composed than I would be if I'd grounded that thumper.
I would imagine that running in circles,Clapping my hands and squealing like a 3 year old girl would be considered undignified for a 54 year old man, But I'd hope no one would take pictures of that part of the hunt.

Sticking with the "as it lay" theme - this deer was one I had just about given up on finding. I took me 45 minutes. I was hunting some small interconnected pocket muskegs above this location. Pretty confident I hit the deer, but no blood trail (turned out to be a complete pass-thru with a 130 TTSX from a .30-30 carbine). The deer took off in a downhill trajectory. After working all the "easy" stuff,I guessed at the most likely gulley it would have gone down. Got the the bottom of that gully and found nothing. Side hilled it and started working back up and found it had piled up at pictured location (just under 100 yds from where shot).

Shot this guy this guy this morning and he fell posed perfectly against a sapling ready to have his pic taken.

Here is mine from yesterday. The snow has disappeared now.
And that is his skid mark. He slid down hill quite aways. Good thing the downed tree was there or he would have been in real deep.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style.

Imagine that: They fell right there with those guns and bows on top of them. Damn weirdest thing I've ever seen...

Awesome PWN. That's a lot of work right there. What rifle and load/bullet were you using?

2014 Antelope Island, UT Bison. Was not intentional placement, but the end of my rifle barrel roughly points to the bullet entry point.

Wow! I love this thread. Sadly my camera crapped out months ago and I haven't replaced it. I've been forced to use my cell phone and that was been a disappointment.
However, it has been a bountiful season. No big horns, but lots of good eats (in two states).

He was fragrant! He was gored by another bull during the rut the day before my wife found him. The biologist aged him @ 2 1/2 yrs old, he'd have been a great bull if he'd lived longer.

I'd say he was older than 2 1/2 years old. Unless they grow differently than the elk here in NM. First year is a spike, second year 3-4 points, 3rd year 5x5 or so, then small 6 if you're lucky. Nice bull tho.....

The only thing I saw this year for horns. Oh well, at least it was only 10 mi. from my house.

gawddammit, don't go arguing with the biologist. They are college educated. If they say something, by golly, it is meant to be believed (by someone). Their learning comes from books about that kinda chit, with no real-world experience or common sense ever involved.....
and I'll bet there was no tooth sectioning done to prove it....
