Nice looking varmint/target type rifle. Those long tube scopes with double micrometer scope ring adjustments were truly awful.

Some of the guys at my club still use those scopes on their vintage target rifles and turn in some pretty impressive scores. What's with your continual bashing of these guys' cool Winchesters? I like this 54. It has a lot of character and I'm sure it is a shooter too.

Yea, those long tube scopes are awful, thats why there is such a high demand for good condition ones and they sell for high dollar. What planet are you from?
Great Model 54 Ismith, love it with that Super Targetspot. Here is a pic of one of my Winchester 52's with a Lyman 20x Supertargetspot and a 100 yd 5 shot group with that terrible archaic scope.

Uber cool rigs! I smith have you tried to dig up history on your 54? You can bet back in those days it was not Joe Sixpack yhat had that rig built! Im willing to bet it is not shot out and will shoot better than you or I can hold it!
Augie, love your Winchesters, is top gun a B or C ? nice shooting, If you ever run across old Federal UM1 ammo, buy a box, the 100 yard groups will be centerfire good ( if the wind is calm!) . Mine love wolf MT, SK rifle match and mag.in the 500 ct pringles cans. Keep a check on Graf and son for the S&K.

I take exception to the unfortunate choice of Slavek's word "Awful".

I have used the Lyman Supertargetspot scopes and Unertl's for 60 years and have a number of them ready. We shoot with them in the 50' gallery all year around and outdoors at 50 and 100 yds.

ismith, super cool looking rifle! Has the barrel been cut down on this or does it just appear short because of the super long scope on it. What caliber is it in?

That rifle is a custom by the late Floyd Butler. It has a 26" barrel with a 1-16" twist chambered for the R 2 Lovell and rechambered for the .219 Improved Zipper.

The scope is not "super long" at all and in fact just right for that rifle. It's a 10X Lyman Supertargetspot. I have made numerous shots with it on chucks etc.

I shoot the 50gr Sierra over 4064.

Great looking rifle. I have a Lyman Super-Targetspots on my Winchester target rifle and it is as good/better - than any other scope I own.

I haven't sent G&H an email yet but I am planning on it. The barrel is 22 inches long and appears to be as it left G&H. It is chambered in 250-3000.

I haven't checked yet. I appreciate the offer, but I couldn't except with all the .257 caliber bullets I have stocked for my Roberts.

The only good gun I even saw at the Helena gun show was this same gun in 250-3000. I wouldn't mind owning it, except for the $6000.00 price tag on it...

Yep, I figured if I priced it too low someone would want to buy it! It was the most popular rifle on my table. I think even my wife secretly likes it, she gave me a pretty hard time as I was casing it up to put in the truck.

I found a G&H side mount with a M84 scope at the Billings gun show a few years ago for $1200. It was an original M1C mount and I ended up trading it for a type 2 NM M1 Garand in 99.9% condition.
