Lost a great mule tonight. She cut an artery in her back leg and ended up bleeding out. She was a hell of a good mule. Just a gentle giant that you could do anything with whether it be hauling any load or throwing someone on her that had never rode before she was good with whatever. RIP ol' large Marge you will be missed

That is tough news. Losing any animal is hard, but the good ones are harder yet.

We don't have a clue how it happened. Have walked the pasture where all the blood is a dozen times and cant find a single thing.

Skin her out, make some saddle bags, and she'll continue to ride along with ya.

She wasn't shot. She must have stepped on something but for the life of me cant find what it was. She had a puncture wound on the back of her foot that caught an artery. I stuck my finger in the wound to my second knuckle after she died and the wound still went farther.

Hole? Or slice.

Stray bullet? Or is it too low on her leg.

Its a puncture hole way to low to be a stray bullet and is at an upward angle.

Stick? Errant piece of rebar?

Wound consistent with something like that?

Maybe a piece of buried barbed-wire out there sticking up, or a nail sticking out on a fence.
