I too would like to see the return of the number 3. I'd buy one in 38\55 & 7.62x54R.
Leave the gun, take the canolis.

Bring back the #3 in .30-40, .303, and create a new cartridge using .416 bullets in the .45-70 case.
I will order the first one of each of these.

Terry Fixed them for you.  Rugers shoot a lot better when the buttplate doesn't slip all over your shoulder, like those infernal smooth plastic plates. I'm kinda liking that rimmed .416 idea, if the case is big enough...

IMHO with #1 retail price at $1399.00 . The #3 price would likely be $1000.00 or higher, not sure if enough they would sell at that price point.
One thing there would be no difference in the wood quality from the fence post plain wood that we are now seeing one the #1s.
Interesting chamberings would add to the appeal . The plastic carbine butt plate would certainly not add to the appeal.
Should have kept the 3 I did have, they appreciated more then some #1s.

I really oughta find a casting house who would economically make a checkered steel replacement for that buttplate. There's a bazillion 10/22's that could use it, and other guns, too.
When I worked with an original 44 carbine, the accuracy significantly improved, just adding a stuck on rubber strip, so it wouldn't slip all over your shoulder when you fired it.

Added a 348 to my wish list too. I wouldn't mind if the new #3 lost the plastic butt plate and/or the forearm clamp. I think Ruger could do a limited edition of a different caliber every year and sell them out.

Been wondering, what can they do differently, that hasn't been done already in a #1. Bunch more Euro cartridges? All rimmed ones?
6.5x57R,7x65R,30R (7.62x68R),8x??R, 375FL ??? Some half-octagon barrels?
Maybe, actually buy some nice wood to put on them for a change?
Old English recoil pads?
