Kimber makes their 308's in a 1:12 twist.

I'd be looking to shoot ~180 grain bullets out of this for elk, if I bought it.

From what I've read, 308's prefer faster twist rates for bullets on the heavier end 180 grains and up.

anyone with personal experience on this?

Folks been shooting 180's in 30-06's and 308's forever. I'd think you're good to go. But it wouldn't cost much to make sure. Or maybe a member here can try it.

1:12 is plenty for 180's. Pointy 200 grainers or more wouldn't fare so well, but they're a bit much for a .308 case anyway.

I loaded 200 accubonds, 200 woodleighs, 200 Sierra Game Kings, 200 Nosler Partitions, 180 Accubonds, 185 Bergers, and 180 sciroccos in my Kimber Montana 308....none of them keyholed at 100 yards...but I think I'll be settling on 200 NPTs or 180 Sciroccos cause they shot the best for me.

I wouldn't worry too much about 180s and 1:12 in my experience.

If the montana 8400 300wsm has the same twist, mine really liked the 180 accubond

I would think a 308 Montana was just made to shoot 150 TTSX's

Mine has shot 165TSX with no problem and they are as long as 180gr conventional bullets. IMHO the 165TSX will work splendidly on anything you would care to shoot with a 308.

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.
