I broke down and bought a Winchester 1894 SRC last weekend. Over the years I think I have seen about twice as many 38-55 SRC in Winchester 1894 when compared to Savage 1899.
Any thoughts on relative production numbers of these two uncommon calibers in SRC.

There were almost 300,000 1894's produced before Savage chambered the 38-55. By WWI when Savage dropped the .38-55 there were more than four times as many 1894's produced. Based on those numbers I would think there should be a lot more 1894's in .38-55, .32-40 and .25-35 (hard to find in either Win or Sav)...but a lot fewer in .303 Savage. wink grin

I recall running into only about half a dozen 38-55 1894 Winchester SRCs and around the same number of 1899 38-55 SRCs (over the last 30 years) so neither would be considered common in Canada.
Not certain why anyone would order a 38-55 in a 20 inch barrel.

Did anyone other than Savage EVER chamber ANYTHING in .303 Savage?

Thanks,

I don't remember any other US manufacture chambering it as a standard.

Hope your all well.
