Ok I am a Leupold whore but just bought my first true long range tacticool or bench rifle and need a scope. I am leaning toward the SWFA 3x15-42 should I be looking at something else. I have sting from the gun purchase so would like to stay under $1K for now. I have a Leupold MK4 with target knobs but new gun needs new scope right.... Thanks

Here ya go, tacticool on a budget...I've had the regular Grand Slam, and it's VERY nice Japanese glass.... Weaver Grand Slam Tactical.

Well, kind of surprised there were not more options thrown out. I ordered the SWFA and looked at the Weaver. I now will need to learn MRAD vs MOA. It makes a lot of sense once you get the basic difference.

That SWFA is solid. What questions do you have with mils, etc?

Well, looks like I am going to have to try something else, SWFA has them on back order.
No real questions, just need to not think in MOA. MRAD is just new to me is all. I will ask you Formidilosus and Stick though if I get lost.
Guess I am off to SWH to see what they have or i'll run my Leupold MK4 models for a bit.
Thanks,
Good Shooting!

I would be looking over at snipershide, on eBay, etc. Buying a used SWFA SS wouldn't bother me in the least and is in fact how I prefer to get them. There is no variable scope in that price range that will touch them. You can also find Bushnell 3-12x LRHS's for around $800 if you shop and would be the only other sub $1k 12-15x variable I would even contemplate.

I am using the SWFA 3X15X42 and it is working great. Have had it 4 months, and have yet to resight it. Dialed in to 800 on a .243. Have shot a bunch of coyotes, 2 deer and 1 antelope with it. one deer was shot at the earliest of daylight, and one deer and antelope were shot right at dark. The scope worked fine. I could see fine, even in the dim light. Good glass, and so far this scope has been very repeatable, and reliable. Can't beat them.

I have the Leupold 4.5-14x40mm Tactical on the Kimber 270 WSM. That rifle is a real hammer and right on. I check rifles not only for groups but if it stays sighted in from a cold barrel which is of paramount import. to me. Yesterday it put two shots right on into .6" at 200 yds with the 150 SST.

Thanks guys and Savage I have 2-of that scope. It is a great tool but am looking for a FFP, exposed turrets, and a good reticule. This will be a bench and fun rifle.
SWFA is out of the 3x15's until late next month, so may need to use one for temporary, but new toy, must play.

What is the opinion on the NF SHV? I know it is SFP, but I am not worried about this. Lets compare to Vortex Viper PST?

Disregard, buy once, cry once... Getting the NXS F1. I have been wanting a precision rifle for some time and would be stupid to buy the rifle and put an ok optic.
