Inquiring minds wish to know smile

Hay John: Have you seen that powder yet? What cartridges did you intend on playing with?

Hunterapp,

I picked up two pounds of LT-30 last week at Western Powders while deer hunting in that part of Montana. Haven't had a chance to try it yet, but will probably do so in the .17 Hornet and .22 Remington, at the very least. I'll have to study the possible applications before coming up with a longer list.

Somehow I can't get excited about any new powder when the old ones are nowhere to be seen. Does anyone remember what an 8 pound jug of anything looks like inside an LGS?

Early loose information gives me a warm fuzzy on the LT30 working well in the 17 fireball with the 20, 25 & 30 grain bullets. Accurate has compared this powder to 4198 and I am suspecting IMR 8208 may be a closer comparison.

Anxious to get the speculation behind us and see where this LT-30 shines.

Actually, the lack of old powders gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling towards IMR 8208 XBR. Yes, I know it's not the original 8208. But, when I couldn't find other powders a couple years ago, I found an 8 lb keg of the new IMR 8208. Gambled, and won. It works great for me. Perhaps there are better powders, but I get good groups, decent velocity, and it seems to burn very clean. And I've plenty of the stuff smile. So, if the old traditionals aren't available, might want to give the newer powders a try.

FYI, there were 10-20 eight pound jugs of powder at the local Sportsman's Warehouse when I was in there a few days ago. And the other LGS in town have had some too over the last few weeks.

Any news or examples on how this LT-30 may fit in the small cal world?

I haven't had time to fool with it yet, but did make up a list of cartridges that should be worth trying, based on 4198 data. Probably won't get to try any, though, until 2015.

Yea I understand life has a way of getting in the way of important projects at times. If you wish, perhaps you may subcontract some of this testing out. Let me know if you are desiring any assistance with this project smile Well I can try can't I wink
