More accurately, which cartridge?

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=451457663

When fired blows a standard 7mm Remington Magnum to a straight wall cartridge?

The 7mm STW (Shooting Times Westerner) was a pretty popular wildcat a decade back - longer chamber (they used a 8mm REM MAG case necked down). The seller needs to take a chamber cast to determine the chamber measurements to know for sure.

Ps Just a guess on my part.

+1 on 7STW,BUT thats just an educated guess, I would know before I pulled the trigger, cerocast or at a min. chamber a 7STW cart. Im playing with 3 STW's and it is a super long range cal.! very best winpoor

Doesn't the STW require a longer action?

Would that have been rechambered from Rem mag to 7 Weatherby?

My factory STWs are on the H&H classic action. With the rechamber it at least needs a longer mag box and I think modified bolt stop. A gunsmith would give you a better idea of the modifications needed.

Like winpoor said the STW is quite a long range chambering

STW makes sense, but a oil points out, would require am H&H length action. The receiver doesn't appear to have been modified.

Not sure what we have here, but if I remember correctly the .300 H&H XTR from 80s didn't have cutouts in rear or front of action to accommodate longer cartridge like pre-64 Winchesters.

That gun is out of proof by Euro standards I would run not walk away from it.

On the Classics the front of the receiver isn't cut out like the pre '64s. The rear bridge is shorter and the rear scope mounts have a shorter spacing.

Without the barrel being restamped who knows if uncle Larry did this at aunt Wandas's table.

Looks like an STW. A 7mm Weatherby case is no longer than a 7 Rem Mag so I doubt it's that.

The action is long enough for the STW and would require a change to the mag box, follower, bolt stop and ejector to work properly.....but anyone who rechambers and does not mark the barrel might not have had the brains to make these changes.....to many people rifle function is a vague and obscure concept, but who knows what was done here. I have my doubts about the whole Boss thing anyway. Trash the tube.

Looks like a good donor but that's about it. The action guts can be changed to whatever with the right parts.

In the description he said it is. Marked 7 mm rem. I'm betting its a rechamber to STW or Wby. Good deal for a mod 70 ss

I sent a question to the seller and by the measurements they sent back and looking at the pictures this is a standard action, not the H&H action. I have both actions and the measurements match my standard action.

EVERY M70 Classic chambered for any 30/06 length or magnum cartridge is a H&H-length action.

The differences are in the mag box and other parts....if you want to get fancy, you do some external cuts on the rear bridge.

You can take a 270 Classic and turn it into a 375H&H tomorrow and the only thing that will be longer is the mag box.

Whatever this is,it isn't a 7mm Weatherby...look at the case dimensions for both cartridges....the 7 Rem Mag is longer case head to shoulder and base of neck. A 7 Rem Mag should not even chamber in a 7mm Weatherby.
