That certainly explains why a Texan knew all about it.

Travis, I keep thinking about the subsonic 308 loads you was explaining to me. I'm assuming with a can you hardly hear a pop at all. And probably dead nuts accurate!

The more I think about it the more I'm thinking I really need to try this. Probably shoot a coyote right off the back porch and not even wake the neighbors.

Gun show up yet?

Shod

Not sure. I've been busy not killing elk. Should be in this week though. Although I'm kinda thinking it won't get fired until after the season.

This is with sub-sonics. I'm waiting on my 22LR can to show up. I'm thinking it will probably be the funnest of all.

So far it's looking like the French should stick to naps and schitty food.

A slight twist to the left to see if anything was loose resulted in this:

[Linked Image]

Which isn't all bad when you consider they didn't even bother to drill and tap the most forward portion of the base.

UBER impressed:

Doesn't look like there's much meat for that forward screw.

I read somewhere that the front screw was for a mirage shield.

That would make sense.

The broken screw doesn't...

Same screw on the TRG brake and yes the two can be used for a mirage shield anchor points.

The screws and the base itself are epoxied to the receiver. They cannot be removed without application of heat in my experience. Not heating will result in broken off screws or even a bent rail as you try to pry it off. Ask me how I know.

The front screw is positively for a mirage shield. Attempts to screw it in further can also result in a bent rail.

You will also notice that the rail has a pressed in dowel pin that interfaces with the reciever, a nice touch. That rail is screwed, glued and pinned. It's not moving.

Thanks for posting this.

I already decided to not care about the screw and have a SS mounted on it. Gonna load up some different stuff and test it ASAP.

Preliminary load development.

155gr Scenar. LapWhah brass. 44.5gr's of RL 15.

1" dots. Five shots.

[Linked Image]

208gr. A-Max. RL 15. I think RL 17 will make this much more better.

[Linked Image]

Six shots of sub-sonics. 11gr's of Trail Boss. 190gr. Sierra. Three shots, moved 1" down. Three more.

Gonna stick with the 44.5gr's. 45 opened things up just a smidge but still kept 10 under 1 1/4".

UBER.

Hey Travis,

What suppressor are you using?

Thinking about a Harvester 7.62, but interested in your observations on what you run.

Was hunting with a cool bunch today. Everyone had a suppressor on their Tikka or Barrett but me! Severe can envy has set in...

Highly recommended. Sure CTR .308s are uber, but CTR .260s are uber alles. grin
