All my manuals got destroyed in a recent flood. If you have
a set of components that work well with 150 gr bullets, please
let me know. I'm gradually rebuilding my reloading stuff (press, scales, etc.) and first will do some shells for BIL.

Lots of discussions here of late regarding .300 loads, from old school lowball to new school hot rods. My favorite jacketed load is the former, at 39gr. 4064/150 Sierra spitzer.

My hunting load for my 1953 EG Model 99 (24-inch barrel) in .300 Savage is:

Winchester Cartridge Cases
150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet
40.8 grains of H4895 (Chronographed M.V. = 2635 fps (� 3 fps) (+1 fps/-2 fps)
Standard Winchester Large Rifle Primer

Overall cartridge/bullet length: 2.60 inches. This load normally yields 1-inch, 3-shot groups at 100 yards... and zero'd at 25 yards, it is back "on" again at about 230 yards or so.

The H4895 is one of Hodgdon's "EXTREME" rifle powders which means the muzzle velocity produced by this load does NOT vary due to air temperature. This means even if you sight your rifle "in" at 85� F and hunt when the temperatures are down into the teens or 20�s F, the muzzle velocity will be the SAME which means the same point-of-impact you got at 85� will remain the SAME point-of-impact at 20�. Not many rifle powders can make this claim.. and I've actually checked out this claim and it's true. I got the same chronographed M.V. at 25� in late November that I got at 80� earlier the previous summer.

The 300 Savage is pretty easy to get along with IME. I shoot a tuned up Rem 700 Classic, and it does quite well with a bunch of meduim rate powders. 3031, 4064, both 4895's, 4320, N140, Varget, RL15, W748, yada yada

41 grains of Reloder 15 behind a 150 grain Spitzer is accurate and excellent deer medicine.

Have you shot that over a chronograph?

I use 42 grains of Re15 behind a 150 corelokt. Last time I checked it was running around 2560 in my EG.

39 gr. 4064 w/ 150gr. Hornady Interlocks

42gr of 4320 under a 150 hornady, or nosler, or Norma, or Sierra. They all work well at the speeds it drives them and I haven't had any brand of 150 I've tried with this load not shoot well. I used the old Norma semi spitzer this year and it worked great.

Heck, just dump a handful of match heads in the case and squeeze in a 00 buckshot on top and go out and stick a deer with it. Contrary to popular belief, deer aren't Sherman tanks.

Case in point: one of my uncles carried a Savage/Stevens 322 .22 Hornet for decades up in Pennsylvania. He killed a truckload of deer with it, nearly all one shot kills.

Mathman...42.0 gr of RE-15 with Hornady's 150 gr Spitzer, Win Brass, Win Lg Primers and seated to 2.600" chrono's 2630 fps from my 99EG with it's 24" bbl. It's my hunting load...tho 4064, 3031, and 748 do as well. Gps run just a hair over an inch at 100 yds from a "porch rail" rest. A 200 yd zero puts it +2.5" high at 100 yds, and -4" low at 250 yds. That seems in line with what I've seen from my 700 Classic. With RL15 I was using brass that's a bit thinner and of greater capacity, and a milder CCI 200 primer. As a result I went up to 44 grains and got about 2680 IIRC.

42 gr Varget behind a 150-gr bullet. Vel from my 1954 RS is just over 2700 fps. Accurate.

42 grs. of IMR 4320 with a Nosler solid base 150 was my go to deer round. 2575 FPS out of an 99F. ---Then Nosler stopped making the solid base and I went to Hornady 150SST bullets and Reloader #12 with 44.4 grains ,fed 210 primer, Rem brass and 2700 FPS and 1/2" 3 shot groups at @100. I still have a couple pounds of discontinued Reloader 12.
