I'm thinking about ordering an Ingram Semi for myself, just having a tough time deciding between a #1 and #2, as well as what handle material. I'd greatly appreciate if anyone could post photos of their Ingram knives in different handle materials/colors to help my decision. This knife will be hunted, primarily deer.

You cannot go wrong with either the #1 Semi or the #2 Semi. Way back when, I helped Gene design the #1 and I own the first one that he made. It is a spectacularly efficient knife for gutting/skinning whitetail deer. That being said, I also own a #2 (which I had nothing to do with designing) and it is perhaps the better working pattern. I regard the #1 as the more elegant of the two patterns. I recognize that this is extremely subjective, however. The #1 Semi is 6 3/8" while the #2 Semi is 6 5/8". Looking at them side by side the #2 looks obviously bigger and feels bigger in the hand. Both knives are perfect whitetail disassembly tools.
I have them in D2 and S30V and they are startlingly sharp. The handle material is Micarta and the colors are black, green, and red. The original #1 has stainless pins. Others have black and brass pins or mosaic pins. All look very fine. And, of course, both the #1 and #2 feel like an extension of your hand.
They work without thought.

Thanks, RS. I sent Gene an email shortly after posting this to start some dialogue and get the ball rolling with an order.

I've never had a micarta handled knife. How do they hold up? Are they porous?

Any major preference D2 vs S30V?

The great thing about Micarta in my experience is that it provides a tacky grip surface when it gets bloody. Micarta will last close to forever. I have never had a Micarta handled knife take a stain, swell, crack or show any sign of being porous.

I have seen no functional difference between the D2 and S30V knives that I have used. Both are superior knife steels as long as the heat-treat is done properly. All of Gene's knives are done properly. I keep a very light film of RemOil on all of my knives and this is especially important with D2 as it is "semi-stainless".

I wish I had photos to post for you but, alas, I am technology-challenged.

Much appreciated. Was kind of set on G10, but now may try a micarta. My Bark River is D2 and I've had no issues with it. I'll have to read up more on the two.

I like micarta, especially paper and canvas micarta. I am also very fond of G-10, especially when it's been glass bead blasted...it's makes it really tacky, even with bloody hands. G-10 that has been jigged and then glass bead blasted provides another grippy alternative. Below are some examples of jigged and beaded G-10.

Thank you, antlers! Any photos of micarta handles, by chance?

I love those mosaic pins in the first three. Does Gene have photos up somewhere of all of his available mosaics?

I don't think Gene has a photo of all of his available mosaics. The paw print mosaics are pretty popular, as are the radiation symbol mosaics.

Thanks for the additional photos. I'm leaning pretty hard towards the paw print mosaics. Now just waiting to hear back from the man himself via email...

Forgive the terrible picture, but here is a #2 Semi in I think Ivory Micarta & S30V. Pretty sure that's what it is, can check the card once I get home. Its a nice knife IMHO.

#1 in 3/32" S30V on the right, with matching 6.5.
#7 in 1/8" S35VN with matching Lite Hunter on the left.

What have you there for handles, GW? Still trying to find orange micarta to compare to the blaze G10.

Not Micarta, but here is one of Gene's in orange jigged G10 on a Spey in S30V. The orange is nicer than it looks in the picture.

This pair has seen about 60 deer/bear.

Same with this one. It always gets gutting duties, O1 steel. It was my first Ingram, bought around 2003 or so for $60.

Here's a pic of Gene's #1 semi. Great choice for skinning duties on deer:
