I picked up marlin 336 30-30 jm marked and was hoping for some advice on what guys are loading in her. I was looking at the hornady 160 g ftx with leverevlotion powder but couldn't find any data in my hornady manual. Also what groups at 100 yds are people getting with a scope? Really appreciate any help and thx in advance

3031 or H335 powder. H335 will get you a little more velocity, but my rifle likes 3031 better for accuaracy.

It would be hard to find any better powders than 3031 or H335. I mainly load H335 for the last 2 decades. Chronographing this powder easily gives me what factory ballistics are supposed to be.

I get more accuracy than I think I'm entitled to with 3031 and the Hornady 170 FP in my M94. Velocity 2143 fps.

I've not tried the FTX and Leverevolution powder, I don't think it would shoot any better than what I'm shooting. The only problem with the present load is that the bullet has been discontinued. After the season, I'll start looking for a replacement, I already have some Partitions in stock.

Sure don't need a partition at 2100-2200fps.Almost any off the shelf C&C will work. Most of the companies sell bullets designed especially for 30-30 type loads.

I've tried the Speer and Sierra offerings, and was more interested in the accuracy of the Partitions. If they are not any more accurate, then I'll go with one of the other two.

I won't know until I try 'em, and at the price, they oughtta guide themselves to the target.

I agree totally with the .30/30-specific bullets. They've had over 100 years to refine them, and they are very predictable in their performance. I've not ever had bad performance out of C&C bullets designed for and used in a .30-30.

I've had extremely good luck with W748 powder and Sierra bullets.

If you can't get a marlin to shoot a 170 FN over 28 gr. Of 3031, you should sell it.

The lever whatever bottles of powder show a load for the ftx bullet in the 30 wcf. I am not home so I cannot read it off 4 you. I really like the leverwhatever powder. I have not harvested any animals with the ftx bullet but they seem to shoot ok 4 me. I think they are a lot like the sst,

I was able to produce sub MOA groups with my marlin using leverevolution powder and 160 ftx bullets.My best load was one grain under the listed max on the powder bottle.

If interested in lighter weights, I did some vast work up loads with 130gr Speer FN's and LVR powder last year. Settled on 42.5gr @2620fps out of my '77 vintage Texan

3031 will always be the powder to beat. But of course, I am old and very contrary. Don't try to hot rod it. It is what it is and it is very good at what it is. Enjoy.

I use 30 gr. IMR 3031 and the 170 Partition (got a good deal on them years ago) or the Winchester 170 silvertip component bullet (same) out of my Dad's old Marlin. We're (the rifle and I, Dad passed carying it in '03)going hunting together on Friday, hopefully will see something worth putting the old girl to useon. Often get sub-MOA accuracy.

32.0 grs start load to 35.5 grs LVR max WLR primer and WW brass according to the 2014 Hodgdon's manual. Might have to search a little in Big Game rifles forum but I asked the same there couple months back. Magnum_Man

The two loads I've settled on for my .30-30 are:

.308" 170 gr. Speer FN/33.5 gr. W748/CCI 250 primers

.308" 170 gr. Remington CLSP/32.0 gr. Varget/WLR primers

I use these with all cases. Point of impact and velocity are nearly the same.
