I listened to ONeil when he has recited his story about the cancelling of UBL but missed the details on the weapon he used, the ammo if known and the distance of those shots.

Anyone know the details or have an experienced guess???

If he was inside as we were led to believe he was, the distance would have been fairly close, likely less than 50 feet. As the to the ammo, i have no idea.

I read the book "No easy day" and if I remember right it was an HK 416 or whatever they call it and Black Hills MK 262 ammo (77 gr SMK). It was at the end of a hallway but I don't recall how close. But that's according to the book and my memory, take it for what it's worth.

I do remember the Gen 4 night vision at $65,000 per pair.

Yep, I read Owen's book also and remember it well. It was a great read! According to Owen, ONeill took the shoot from the top of the stars to a head that popped out of a door to the right, down the hallway on the third floor. It was a headshot and he was shot in the chest a few more times after the Seals entered the UBL's beddroom but there was already brain matter on the floor. The house wasn't huge so my guess is less than 50 feet. Nothing remarkable, just good shooting. UBL had had an AK hanging above the door but never took it down even with all the firing going on, me thinks he died like a ScardyKat coward wink . It was an HK416 with 77gn SMK's

I loved the part at the end of the book were Obama asked them all to autograph a picture for him and they all signed with fake names. laugh

I heard from somewhere (don't remember where or even if it was a reliable source) that the bullets used were 70gr or 77gr Barnes TSX. It would make sense to me for it to be Mk.262 but I heard the TSX somewhere.

I'll ask him next time I see him. I met Rob last spring when I hosted a Wounded Warrior's shoot up here. Great guy, and about as down to earth as you'll ever find.

I'm sure it was a barrier blind round but until someone speaks up, the official answer is MK262.

They are getting some heat for mentioning the new NV so I doubt we will ever know exactly how it went down.

It's in every issue of Soldier of Fortune in one add or another!

Not a real big secret anymore.

At less than 10 yards he could have used a rubber bullet

How does the rest of his team feel about him sharing all this info?

Some of them didn't think it was a good idea and others haven't contacted him.

Other than shooting him in the face at 2' 3 times and explaining why the helo went down, the only thing he compromised was his own safety.

The book No easy day, was written by a member who used the name Mark Oneal and he is the one who said the shot was taken by the lead man up the stairway. He explained in the middle of the action, he probably saw the shot from the stairway and when he got in, usama was on the ground so he fired thinking he was the second man in when he actually was the third. An interesting account.

One thing that stood out was his statement that unless you were there, you don't know what happened, only what you were told. So who knows?
