Have another question which I need an answer to.This is another 99 that I have a chance to make a swap for. Actually 2 questions, what model would it be and is the barrel band /sling stud an add on? Can't really see it that well. If it is a takedown it's an F solid frame E. Looks like the forend may have been replaced? Should not be checkered.

The studs front and back are not factory.

Greetings Savage enthusiast. I like your trade prospect, and I think you will as well. I'll call it a 99F takedown, post 1927'ish IIRC (by virtue of the ramp front sight).

I find them to carry and balance nicely, and mine shoots lights out at 200 yards with a receiver sight. Only difference is mine's pre-bubba'd with a compass, and it shoots a 300 Savage cartridge. smile

For value, I think about $600 give or take, depending on condition.

Jim52, I sure need to get a Murray's reference this year, because I have lots of questions also. It is a tad hard to zoom in on the photos, but it appears that your barrel band is exactly like mine. 1924 99G in .250-3000. Aftermarket? Common for the day? Factory? Mine has a hairline split at the top, which is where I assume it was spread to go over the front sight before being silver-soldered on. Mine looks very professional, but then there were some really good 'smiths back in that day.

I'll agree it's probably a 99F, but the forearm is a replacement, the studs are aftermarket, and I wouldn't bet that the buttstock is even original...

Skip the trade is my suggestion, unless you're trading a fairly low end gun.

Thanks for the info guys, was going to trade a 1975 99C in 308 but was a little apprehensive about the fore end. Sometimes I get excited about the find and overlook the obvious, totally missed that the butt stock was not checkered like fore arm. Also it has been drilled and tapped so I think I will keep my .308, as much as I would like a .303
