Loading as much RL-17 as I was comfortable compressing in my 7-08, I could only get to 2800 fps with the 140 grain AB. Going back to RL-15 and/or Varget.

Never have tried Re-17 in my 7-08 M70 Fwt. When I first got it, I landed on H414 as what seemed to be in the sweet spot for powders and that caliber....using a Hornady 139 SST. It flat wouldn't shoot.

Ended up going to a Sierra Pro Hunter 140 over Varget. 2783 MV. It kills deer dead and shoots tight groups.

I think JeffO was. Might do a search. Seems like he got about 2,700fps after some tinkering.

Not 162's, but I was somewhat suprised the other day when I finally chronographed my 145gr H4350 load from my 20" carbine and it broke 2,700fps. I think I'm one grain below Hogdon's max in my old manual. H4350 is a useful powder.

Hornaday list 2700fps with RL-17 and H-414 with 162's. one 7-08 I have 24" barrel runs quite a bit faster than their data with 17 43gr gives me 2646fps Hornady list 42.9 as 2500fps and 46gr 2700fps

A 162/168 in a 7-08 case? Hmm. I imagine it drops a ways below the neck.

It was throated for these and built on a long action. All the bearing surface is above the neck shoulder junction.
