I just purchased a nice 270 and would like to ask a few questions. The serial number is just barely visible do you guys engrave this back on the bolt or just let it wear off. This will be a hunting gun so in the future you want be able to distinguish the numbers. Second question is what type of rear sight came on this gun and where can I find one. The last question is the leather strap is ate up with green rust. Especially the buckles. How do you clean this up? Going out of town for the weekend to deer hunt so thanks in advance for your replies. Thanks Rick

I'd leave the serial # as it is....some of the serial #'s on the bolt were very light and if it's still visible after 65 years, it will probably remain so for at least another 65 years and you can't replace original. The Winchester 22G was the standard rear sight for your rifle, always available on eBay for $100.00 +. As for the sling, you can try to clean it up, but, if it's too far gone, would just look for another to replace it....have no problem using new slings on my 70's....a beat up sling makes a rifle look like chit.

Sometimes a ragged beat up sling can lead to spills that will make you wet your pants and say bad words too... wink
