I am putting togheter a few Mausers, and the Talley rings/mounts seems a bit to high looking through photos online.

Any tips?

From research on my last couple LR and SR builds original Weaver rings and bases will get you the lowest. Leupold QR rings and bases can get you pretty close to that if you get low or extra low rings.

What scope(s) do you intend to run? The problem I have run into is that I can get the ocular of the scope too low to clear the bolt. Meaning something like a Zeiss scope will not work with the lowest of ring/bases available.

Talley rings on a LR do sit pretty high compared to other actions but I just bought another set for my 9.3x62 build this week. They work well and I trust them.

Conetrols are the lowest I have found for Mausers, as haverluk mentioned the ocular lens on some scopes are too large to use with low or extra low mounts. Standard Talley lows are much higher. I took them off a custom Mauser and replaced them with the Conetrols because of the better cheek weld with the Conetrols.

Warne bases with Weaver low rings may even be lower than Conetrols but when I tried that combination the ocular was hit by the bolt handle.

Talley detachable rings were the lowest I could find to fit my CZ 550.

I have the Leupold QR's on two rifles that I use for travel hunts, and I think they are great. You can mount a scope pretty low as well. I mounted my Leica ER with the low rings and that scope has a 42mm objective lens and it was to low for bolt handle clearance so I bought the med height rings and they were fine. I also like the small, low profile levers on the QR set-up for less chance of catching on clothing or back packs.

Matt Williams was making a lower ring. Unfortunately I believe his business went titz up. Here is a set on a pre64 M70.
