Walkers, and the walker virus, provide the backdrop that makes for a crucial component for the chemistry of the whole series.
I think it's funny that every separated group has a different name for them. Every possible name is used
except zombie . The whole series must take place in an alternate universe where there was never a zombie genre for movies and books, so no common name, derived from a common cultural experience, can be applied to walkers.
