Field Grade: be aware if they are over about 1.5 years old, its easier to chew through a Michelin steel belted radial. Those ones are for the crock pot/pressure cooker/pot pie.
The younger ones are for the frying pan. I parboil mine for just a few minutes in with a couple onions, roll in flour/salt/pepper and fry in butter

Make a gravy out of the dripping and serve with your choice of potatoes.

I literally cannot think of a meal that I consider as better than that! laugh

Come to think of it, I've been seeing some nests down on my neighbor's place.. Mebbe he'll let me take my little barker call down there after big game season's over..

I did not see the heads in that pan! They was good eating when i was a kid. Flour, fry then crack open with a spoon to eat the brains!

Uh Oh,,,, I think this one's pretty old.
The dogs had two of em in a tree out front. I shot at a smaller one and missed. Then I saw this one and shot it. Sounds like I'd have been better off with the first one.

I kinda feel bad for killing the poor little fella, he had a set of balls twice the size of anyone in DC. (Well,,, cept for Pelosi)

I cut most of the meat off the bone,,, think I should par boil it before putting it in the pot-pie?

Oh,,, and happy birthday Ben!!!!

If you just stick the whole dressed and skinned squirrel in the crock pot with some chicken stock the meat will peel off the bone easy in a few hours...

I already boned it (as best I could) but I'll do that with the meat.
I usually make pot pie with chicken that I brown or bake first but I'll give the Squirrel meat some extra pre cooking.
Gotta get me a Rabbit first though. I usually have a few running around my place in the mornings but not today. Looks like I'll have to put my boots on and actually go looking for one.

I hope you are cooking and eating your bunnies and squirrels Don.

If not, I may have to fart in your general direction!

Made 6 sets with my neighbor today... Called one in close, but I couldn't get on him in time. Saw another one way across a drainage at a different set, and he started to come in at a good pace, but he disappeared when he started to go downwind, so I figgered he'd winded me, but when we pulled down the trail a ways, there was a pickup down in the drainage, so I'd say them being there messed us up. Oh well, we'll get them next time... It was good to get some coyotes to come in at least..
