I'd call this guy my first "real" buck. A little 5 pt. I was actually about to get down, I hadn't seen anything all morning. I owe it to good timing and my Remington 700 .243. But mainly to "Coleridge", he's wise beyond my years.

Well done! You owe it to good aim and a productive area as well. Enjoy the fine venison....

And the guy that pointed you to the rifle, mounted your scope, loaded your bullets, helped cut up the deer... I'm sure the list goes on. Ohh & all the little people too grin

Congrats smile

I may have shot a deer or ten with the 243 using 100 gr Hornady over IMR 4350. That combo still doesn't suck............

I wouldn't hesitate to say my extended family has killed 50 deer with a 243. I was the first to start out with the cartridge in 1975. Every kid, cousin, new inlaws, and younger friends and their kids all used one at some point early in their deer hunting career. Might have even been a couple black bears that experienced its insufficiency.

I bought an SS M77 last year and will dream up some 100 gr deer loads for it this winter. My daughter had our first grandchild recently. I ought to be able to come up with a load in the next 7-8 years till he's old enough to carry it.
