Anyone hunted with the target dot?

Would you use it for general big game? Or not visible enough?

Bellydeep: I use the fine target dots for Colony Varmint Hunting and whilst doing so I sometimes see a running Jack Rabbit and shoot at them - its VERY difficult to do this successfully with the "target dot".
The heavy dots are another matter - I am NOT sure if they are called "target dots" though?
So in my opinion the "target dots" (the fine ones I use) are not conducive to Big Game situations.
Years ago I had a Leupold 3x9 with what was called a "Leupold Dot" - this was a reticle consisting of tapered crosshairs from outside heavy to central fine and also in the center was a medium size dot.
This worked good for game and Varmints for me for several years.
I sold the gun and with it the scope.

For Big game a big dot 3-4 MOA from http://www.scopedot.com .

Excellent to deal with.

I was looking at the 6x42 with the target turrets and target dot.

Probably not usable.

Once it starts to get dark, the lack of crosshairs becomes a limitation. One of my worst days hunting involves a big racked buck, the last few minutes of light and weaver 4x with a dot.

Got a pard, who's an occasional poster here, in WY that uses the target dot in all his scopes. Only time I recall him having an issue was on a black hog right at dark. He kills LOTS of game with the dot.

Tried it, absolutely hated it. Used one in a Leupold for one season and got rid of it. It was OK in good light, low light it sucked. Nothing like being able to see an animal just fine and having no clue where you're aiming.

FWIW, Leupold can change out most of their reticles for around $60.

Yeah I could do that or a turret change on one of the duplex models.

I've used the CPC dot or "Leupold Dot" to good effect on deer/hogs, but it is not a target dot.

The CPC is a great all a around reticial for one wanting to use same scope for hunting and target work
