I've done my measuring, cases prepared and primed, ready to add powder. I have on hand two possible powders to start with. Varget and Benchmark. Which would you start load development with? Thanks.

Is this a serious question? Flip a coin.

Yes, this is a serious question. I've never loaded for the 223 but the data I've looked at shows about the same performance on the Hodgdon web site but am looking for some guys with real world experience with these powders. Sorry for my ignorance. Gun is a Ruger American Rifle with a 1-8 twist 22" tube.

Both, then pick the best results.

TBS, the 65 gr. GK is the easiest bullet to get shooting that I've ever used, any cartridge, any rifle..

My apologies. Both have the appropriate burn rate so there is no wrong answer to which to start with. Many people have success with both and only your rifle will tell you which one it prefers. I'd follow Rancho Loco's advice since it's only two powders.

I like Varget, too.

There are 2 rules to success:

1. Never tell everything that you know.

Funny! I mean c'mon. Any cartridge? I didn't know they made a 65 gr. GK for a 30.06, gay 270.

I might be able to think of a few more. laugh

I did read it.

First rule of the fire is "Its not what you mean, Its what you say" that's going to get you slammed on here.

ANY CARTRIDGE, ANY RIFLE is what you said. Which is a very broad statement. laugh

Would you like me to change it to, "IN any rifle, IN any cartridge.."?

It will help you to make sense.

I got best accuracy with AA2230 behind that bullet. Varget worked Ok, but not quite as well.

One of my goals for this season is to prove to myself that one of my 223s is a big game rifle. cool
