Hey guys,

I am looking to get a nice lightweight sling for a new Kimber Montana 223. I have a couple Montana slings which I like but I am thinking maybe something other than leather for this one.

Any good ones out there you're using?

I've been using the GroveTech Mountaineer or the Uncle Mike's Mountain Sling. They are about the same with sewed in swivels and "textured" inner layer but the GroveTech is made in the USA and I believe the UM's is now made in China.

I'll second the Boonie Packer that Chris recommended.

Thin, no fuss and has small "threads" of non-slip material that run the length of the strap.

Uncle Mikes (now Butler Creek) Mountain Sling for me. I have one that I have used, swapped from rifle to rifle, for 19 years. I sewed the swivels on when I bought it and have had nothing but superb performance from it.

I use one called Browning Clincher, and I really like it. Have used it both on heavy rifles (9 pounds plus) as well as lighter rifles (7 pounds all in) comfortable, durable, easy to use and adjust.

I have a couple of Uncle Mikes Mountain Slings that move between hunting rifles. I don't use the sling very often to carry it but always have one of them with me or on the rifle. There are probably more comfortable ones out there if you use them to carry all the time, but I like the UM's because they don't get in the way, add little weight, and work fine when I have to use them.

Butler Creek comfortech. The older ones without the edge binding, hands down the best. New ones are schit.

I'll add to that they are easy to adjust, come with decent swivels, weigh next to nothing, & the price is great.

The GrovTec looks good. A local company like Uncle M used to be.

3.5oz and will make an 8# rifle feel like 6#....

Another vote for the mountain sling. Very easy to adjust if you want to use it for a shooting aid.

I'll third or fourth the Boonie Packer sling as my first choice for a hunting rifle sling.

Really the only thing I don't like about them is that they're tough to source on this side of the medicine line. When I do find them anymore up here I buy multiples.

That said, I bought a couple of the wider ones and they didn't suit me at all - the 1" or whatever the thin ones are work great for me.

Another vote for the Uncle Mike's Mountain Sling. I have one on every rifle I own, be it synthetic stocked or not. I find it to be the lightest and strongest plus being only 1" wide with slip resistant material attached it keeps the rifle on the shoulder.

Outdoors Connection Express Sling.

I have them on all my rifles. Comes in 1in. Or 1 1/4 in. In many colors. Light, easy to adjust and very sturdy. Made in China tho.

Personally I would just stick to your Montana slings..
