Cabelas finally tracked down my '95 SRC and I have it home now. Nice shape, about 40% receiver finish, 90% barrel blue and no rust or pitting. It looks like the previous owner gave it a daily douche with oil of some type, there's a hardened coating on the rear half of the receiver and the internals are coated as well. I couldn't take it so it's in pieces now with the parts soaking in a can of WD-40 hoping to dissolve the crust. Is there anything that works well? I don't want to brush it and remove the patina, just get it clean.

Okay. In the interest of keeping this thread alive (and to keep kaywoodie from having a conniption grin) here it is. 1921 vintage SRC marked .30 Army on barrel and receiver ring.

After seeing some of these '95's, I have come to appreciate them more now than the last 50 years or so...

I just watched the movie "ride the high country" With Randolph Scott and Joel Macrae in it. One of the gold miners that attacked them had a 1895 saddle ring carbine in it. In "THE WESTERNERS" Brian Kieth used a 1895 in 405. grin

This is a photo of my first edition "Ballads of a Cheechako" by Robert Service. I hope you can make out the front photo on book. The man is Solomon Albert. His claim to fame was loosing most of both feet to frost bite. And later fabrication new feet from the feet of a grizzly. (See his footwear).
He is toting a flat side 95. Unknown caliber.

Ride the High Country is one of my favorite movies of all time. Quite a few different rifles in it.

That's probably Loggah's flat side .40-72 on the cover of that book!
