Now that is nice!

This is the next article Mike Venturino and I are working on. He has a 405 Deluxe takedown which he is casting some 230 grain bullets for. I have a few of those same bullets loaded in the 40-72. I have shot the 380 grain bullets, but with the new brass which is original length, the 380's are a bit long.

We will be shooting them soon and pictures and an article to follow...

That'll be a must read! Let us know where and when it'll show up.

The last one was with a Winchester model 1873 in 22 long. A real nice old Winchester and really rare to find one with a bore like this one has. The article comes out in the next issue of "Rifle" magazine...

Shrapnel, you've got the best collection of "lever porn" I've seen. Keep it comin'! I'll be waiting for that issue of Rifle to hit my mailbox.
My luck that rifle woulda fell off the post and got tangled in the barbed wire.

Shrapnel has been making some really good posts, but can he keep them coming?.. collector guns are hard to find.

Wow - did this thread take off! Very neat stuff. I've really enjoyed everything pictured. So far, Don's deluxe .405 with the factory pad (that letters) and was built before the .405 was supposed to have come out, rattles my cage the most. One wonders how many (if any) .405's were made before this one was made. It sure seems a special rifle in many ways - likely more ways than is known.

Like the rest, I am hopefully that Don will pamper his wonderful wife to the extent that she will take some pictures of his 36 inch barreled rifle cool

Also, I had forgot Shrapnel had that '73 in .22 Long. Neat rifle and neat that under his ownership the rifle has a new chapter in its life of doing what it was made to do - hunt cool

Oh, and Woodie's camp pictures - talk about stepping into the past cool

I do not understand how people can stomach stainless steel and plastic rifles when rifles like what has been shown here exist.

There has to be a 1895 invitational in the works somewhere, with a vintage campsite and a field of gophers to shoot. Prairie dogs won't work for these guns...

Here is one of my '95's. Although, "nothing special" I don't feel that way. How could something that has survived over 100 years and remains completely unmolested not be, "special"? This one just shows mellow use and wear. As far as a hunting rifle, it might reach out a bit further than its brothers with the big holes in their barrels wink

Here's a later one in 35 WCF. No receiver sight however, so it had to go on down the road. Nice original 30 US rifle with a period Lyman 21 is on my list.

See, I learned something here. I thought .30 US referred to the .30-40 and .30 Gov't was the '03 or '06. I also thought only the .35 and .405 WCFs had the matting on the receiver ring. That's what I get for thinkin'!

Kaywoodie - not often you see those cartridges wink

Tmitch - I am confused as .30 U.S. does refer to .30/40 Krag. You did have it right?

While we're on the topic of 95's, here's a .30 US carbine I have. It's a later carbine and never had a ring.

Every time I think I know something about Winchesters, there's a rifle that proves me wrong! I replied earlier to Clarkm that .30 U.S. is the .30-40 and .30 Gov't is the .30-03/06. Then you post your .30 U.S. Mod 1903 and I'm off base, again! I guess you can't count on anything being standard with old Winchesters.
That's a beautiful carbine you have there! I notice the two dots on the elevation scale of the Lyman. I read somewhere that's an indication of it being a factory installed option. Did you letter it?
