I got this one some weeks back, just took my time playing around with it and then finally took it all apart, polished the lock, triggers, bedded the tang and trigger plate. Super sweet trigger on her now. A little polishing and some moly grease goes a long way.

I was going to turn it into another big bore Hawken but decided to just hold off on that idea and let it go as a .50cal for the time being.

Finish is truoil and a couple coats of birchwood casey wax .

Nice job!

Now let it sit outside in the snow for a week and let it age... laugh

Okay, I give up. What is it?

The hardware looks like a TC, but the barrel looks too short and it has a drum and nipple. The stock looks like something other than walnut; maybe maple or birch.

Nice work.

I love truoil, so easy to work with. Must have refinished over 30 shots with it so far LOL. The secret, SUPER thin coats and let them DRY between coats.

Yep. A lot of thin coats with a light buffing between coats and let dry. Patience is the key. It takes a bit of work/time, but the end result is worth it.....

I like to put at least 5 coats before wet sanding with 400 grit. Sanding between coats kind of is cutting it close especially with a stained stock, I've cut through and had to redo that whole area. A real PITA.

I said light buffing. Not sanding. 400 grit would be too course for anything I do once the staining process has begun.
Either way though, it came out nice.....
