Most of that gak is over my head, and I've never swallowed greenhouse gas theory in regards to global warming. That said, there's a reason sea level rise continues, perhaps this is it?

Global Warming is simply the current version of the endless attempts of politicians to get their noses into the public trough to siphon money for their friends and business associates.

Yes it is. It has been determined in laboratories and via satellite measurements. And it has been published on the internet, therefore it is. It just is. What you see firsthand has no relevance whatsoever. Get with the program. I keep looking for the changes too. I can't see them either. However, they must be true. I read it. Therefore it is. crazy

And the moon is a big ball of green ch..wait, I better not say it or it will be, cause it says so on the internet.

Disclaimer, I haven't read the article yet.

But If the sea is rising, maybe its like ice in a cup, more ice is being added and the water is rdisplaced.

A rising sea level should go nicely with socialism. If it rises 10', that will take expensive water front property away from the undeserving rich people and give it to the deserving poor people who have to live further inland.

It's an interesting theory. I'm curious how plausible it is. I know the CO2 demonization is total BS. Ozone depletion deserves a serious look

The problem with measuring the ozone is that it is not constant. Like other gasses, it is basically a cloud, thin in some places, and thick in others. Scientists like to find a constant to use as a baseline. They are not always right, but they sure as hell think they are....

Actually it is. I've had cause to look into this issue and records dating back to the '30s track this trend. The Army Corps of Engineers recently reviewed a coastal mining permit application and in the process identified that our annual rise averages 1.8mm/yr for the period of record. It does not come from melting ice, but rather from warming of ocean waters. It expands, sea level rises.

One can debate the cause, but the effect is very real. People down in SE Florida are all in a dither about it. Screw 'em.

So in 90 years that would be 6 and one half inches?

They trumpeted this about the great lakes until it was proven the earth was moving not the sea level.

The Army Corps is part of the political system with an interest in promoting the idea of global warming, do you have any unbiased sources for this hypothesis?

And, of course you know science is about trying to disprove hypotheses. So how did the Corps design this test to attempt to disprove the hypothesis?

I have lived next to the same coastal lagoon for 55 years, and have an intense interest in its level, and it has not risen one inch, much less 6 of them.

Like most swords this has two edges. Sea level can rise and land masses can subside. Both are at play here in Florida and I don't much give a chitt how it works in your back yard.

The data record is largely based on information recording which originated independent of the ACoE. Tide gauge readings are pretty much straight forward insofar as data goes. The period of record extends back to around 1930. Over time it isn't difficult to see a statistical trend. Argue about your perception all you want, but facts are facts, you don't get to choose which to embrace or ignore whilst on the public stage. In this particular case, the data suggests the trend is accelerating. It does not suggest what the future will be with any certainty.

What is more significant and where agendas get fertilizer, is what the future holds in store and what we do in response. In the ACoE staff recommendation to their decision makers for the referenced project there was clear acknowledgement of long term uncertainty, yet in light of the applicants request for a 110 year permit, the terrain elevations (over 4,000 acres of the proposed project area have NGVD elevations in the 2-6' range) involved and a few other factors, they have recommended approval of one of 8 alternatives with a life of 30 years. Their logic is one of 'let's see what happens and the applicant can apply for expansion down the road.' Makes a fair bit of sense to me. FWIW, the projections made by Corps staff, based on data, are a potential rise in the range of 0-6' based on the record. Sure sounds like an agenda driven determination to me.

If you want to dive into the pile of information on this project:
https://www.federalregister.gov/art...mpact-statement-for-the-tarmac-king-road

If you simply want to explore sea level rise, whip out your Googlefu re: Florida sea level rise. Lot of bullchips and some more pointed information that is sound will be at your fingertips. Best of luck in sorting one from the other.

Dan

Our of curiosity, can someone tell us how big the ozone hole was in 1900? 1800? It wasn't discovered until the late 1970's. It's made some fluctuations since them but is there evidence that it's actually larger than it was 100 or 200 years ago?

You have essentially answered your own question. No one knows. We could assume that during past times of unusually high volcanic activity, it may have been larger but there is no way to know for sure.

The key assumption, if he is correct, is that we have spent billions (and are proposing to spend hundreds of billions more) dollars to reduce CO2 emissions which may do little or nothing to ameliorate climate change.

Yeah, it was bigger at the start of the century. The increased radiation exposure caused genetic damage in a few thousand Yankees that resulted in the rise of modern liberalism.
