Looks like Powder Valley has some in stock. The N140 is a similar burn rate to Varget and the N160 and N165 are close to other powders I use. How does this powder stack up against its competitors?

I've used N165 and it works well. If it's what's available then it'll do what you need it to.

Hard to find in these parts but hear it is a clean and consistent powder. I would like to get some to try in my 6mm and 270.

I use N140 for all my 30-06 loads intended for my M1's. Very clean with less work to clean out the gas cylinders. Cases don't get very smoky either. When you do your part this powder in your M1 will get you to the winning award.

I've used quite a bit of it with success for accuracy and consistency, mostly from N140 up through the slow ones for larger bores. Good temperature stability as well. Only reason I don't use it more extensively is availability.

Bob338 have you tried any N165 in 270 Win?? Thinking it would be good with 150's and maybe in my 6mm with 100's.

VV N165 and other slow burning VV powders have been some of the most temp sensitive powders I've messed with. I've read the same here on the CF.

They do seem to burn clean though......

Never owned a 270. Sorry! Most of my experience is with cartridges 30 caliber and over, except some pistol rounds and 7-08.

Have found this not to be the case in my experience and as an added bonus gives longer barrel life being a single base powder.

VVN165 may not give quite the velocity of the double base powders in its burn rate but a great powder.

I've used VV powders in pistols with great results. The only VV powder I have tried in rifles is N135 in a Garand, and that was because it shows a fairly low port pressure while maintaining good velocity. It is accurate and clean.

The pistol powders I've tried (N110 and 3N37) have demonstrated excellent accuracy. The N110 loads I tried in .44 mag was used in extended OAL loads, was very clean, and MUCH more accurate than the 296 loads I tried, though slightly slower. 3N37 has been clean, accurate, and pretty fast in .45 ACP.

The commonality I'm seeing so far is clean-burning and accuracy. And, Price......

I have used N 135 n my 223/5.56 and it appears to be very temperature sensitive plus it's expensive compared to other powders.

The N500 series was supposed to be temp tolerant. I ran through several of those. Turned out N160 was better in a 338 Win Mag for temp tolerance than N560. It was quite stable down to zero.

I have used quite a bit of the VV rifle powders. I have found it very clean and consistent. I have used a lot of VV-140. It matches RL-15 grain for grain.

I have also noticed that VV-160 works very well in any load that does well with RL-19, though it is not quite grain for grain.

I have found some of my most accurate loads with VV powders. They are somewhat more expensive, but because of that the availability is usually good from dealers that carry the line, in somewhat more normal times, anyway.
