I can't see why one in 25-06 would be any better or worse than one in 30-06, 270 Win or 280AI.

If you accept the platform as being a good one, and the chambering similarly so, just go for it.

You've obviously had plenty of time to think it through!

I tend to think all the Montana's,except a very few that had bad barrels, will shoot. They might however require a bit of tinkering to get there. If you don't mind tinkering, and like the platform, give one a try.

I have a Montana 25-06 that I really like. I really would only put it second to my 84M 7-08 Montana for handling and ergonomics.

Seems to me a very nice package in terms of recoil with available projectiles, although it still seems to be that there should be more and better options for quarter bores.

I haven't loaded for this one at all, because it has shot cheap Hornady Whitetail 117 Interlocks really well. It's a terrific whitetail round - killed a buck on a drive on a friend's ranch with one as he was quartering toward me trying to figure out what I was - broke the near shoulder and out behind the off shoulder - 50 yard run and a good blood trail.

I am a bit of a 25-06 fan, have a couple of others, and this is probably my favorite.

I also have a Montana 25-06 I like alot. It is very accurate and is pleasant to carry even though it is the "heavy" 8400 action. My nephew has a 270 in an 84L and it shoots very well also. He absolutely loves the rifle....

I like mine. It is accurate to the tune of 1/2"-1" with most loads at 100 and shoots 100-grain Noslers to just about 3400, which is what the manual says it should, and shoots great with Hornady American Whitetail factory ammo. Since I acquired it this Summer, it has gotten a lot of use.

Remember, those box-type triggers don't work in dusty conditions.

Reason I'm asking is because you never hear about the 84L 25-06 and I've only seen one. We don't see many Montana's around here. Seems like the .308 has been the only Montana you never here complaints about. Yep been thinking a long time about a the 84L 25-06 for big mountain muleys... Glad to see some here actually own them and not complaining!

Mine was bought for big mountain muleys also and collected most of its dust chasing them. Great rifle for that.

DesertMuleDeer, I see you like the Montana slings too. I've found it you turn them around, so the loop is on the buttstock end, it doesn't take long to make a very effective hasty sling out of them. Get the loop right, snug your upper arm against it, and enough tension to hold better without much tension against the forearm.

I have a Classic Select and Montana. I don't reload, and have not put a significant number of rounds through either rifle. The Classic Select groups factory ammo at around 1 inch, some groups a little smaller, some a little larger. Probably no more than 100 rounds through the rifle.

I struggle with the Montana, it has averaged around 1.00 to 1.75 inch groups, but I've put no more than 50 rounds through it. I'm pretty sure that my technique sucks ass, this my first true light rifle, and as others have mentioned many times, it's simply a little more difficult for an occasional shooter like myself to master how to hold the sumbitch.

I think both rifles are capable of better than what I've achieved to date. I have no complaints about the 84L 25-06. If you buy one and it sucks, don't give me any hell or I'll put you on ignore.
