Uncle Mikes (now Butler Creek) Mountain Sling for me. I have one that I have used, swapped from rifle to rifle, for 19 years. I sewed the swivels on when I bought it and have had nothing but superb performance from it. Do these have a plastic or metal buckle?

Chris84,
Thanks for the link on the Boonie Packer sling. They seem to be what I have been looking for. I ordered two of them right off your link.

If you just want a carry sling, this one is hard to beat; stays in place very well. Not a shooting sling, though. Claw Sling MM

Past few years I have been using a Safari Sling. Kind of like an AK sling so that the rifle is carried across your chest. Works great for me woods hunting. Not so good for a traditional carry though.

I'll second the Boonie Packer that Chris recommended.
Thin, no fuss and has small "threads" of non-slip material that run the length of the strap. SKane; Good evening to you sir, hopefully this finds you well and you've been getting afield some. I'll third or fourth the Boonie Packer sling as my first choice for a hunting rifle sling. Really the only thing I don't like about them is that they're tough to source on this side of the medicine line. When I do find them anymore up here I buy multiples. That said, I bought a couple of the wider ones and they didn't suit me at all - the 1" or whatever the thin ones are work great for me. All the best to you sir and good luck on any remaining hunts this fall. Dwayne Agreed! https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...oniepacker_Packer_Strap_Slin#Post6800544

Thank everyone for the responses, especially all of the links, pictures and videos.
I'll have to order up a couple of my favorites.

Whatever lightweight sling you go with, I've found that the polymer swivels available from Outdoor Connection (I think they are called the "Brute") will not only save you a couple of ounces, but will completely eliminate the "clacking" sound that the steel swivels make- especially on synthetic stocks. They come in blk. and gray and are around $5-$6 a set directly from Outdoor Connection. John

Just received a Packer. Package was so light I didn't have any idea what it was; it's 2.4 oz w/swivels. $13.99 shipped and Made in the USA. Thanks folks!
