If so what is your most accurate load ?

I'm getting ready to build myself another Swift . I have owned at least 6 swifts over the years and the best was a Savage 112 Single Shot in the 70's . It loved the Hornady 53 gr Match HP with 38 gr of IMR 4064. The one I'm building now will have a Shilen Number 4 Select Match SS 1&8 twist barrel and i will cut and crown at 26 inch's. I will start with the Hornady 60 gr V-Max or 75 gr A-Max. Should make a great calling rifle for coyotes. I'm using a Left Hand 700 SA for the build, Timney trigger and Boyd Laminate Stock .

I just wish I had a fast twist 220. I'd shot that little 64 gr BSB from Nosler. That or the 60 gr Partition.

I have a 1/8twist 220 swift. I built mine on a 1909 Argentine Mauser action with a Douglas #3, s.s. barrel at 24".
My point and shoot load is a 55gr. BT with 43gr. H380 @ 3900fps.
My dial and shoot load is 80gr amax with 42gr H4831 @ 3300fps.
It also does well with the 75 amax and 40gr. H4350 @ 3250 fps.
It is one of my favorite guns and highly recommend it.

I have 600 of the 75 gr A-Max's and was thinking of starting with H4350 or 4831SC.

Can't speak on the Swift, but just passing on experiences from having a fast twist ( 1 in 7 ) 22.250.... with 75 and 80 grain bullets, I thought max velocity would lie with powders in the 4350-4831 burn range...

I turned out to be wrong... the fastest velocity came with 4064, 4895, RL 15, AR Comp, Varget burn rates...along with the best accuracy...

I will keep this in mind when working up a load

I love the 220 Swift.....but when Lapua came out with 22-250 brass I made the switch to 22-250AI, you might want to at least consider it before you chamber your new Shilen.

I shoot a 1-9 Ackley improved with a 26.5 Shilen #4 on a rem 700 LONG action. bedded in a B&C Medalist sporter.I load IMR -7828 with a a 75 Berger VLD @ 3475 F sec. Last mon son shot a 165 lb 8 pt here in Pa ...258 Yards both lungs...DRT...bullet was found against opposite hide...really not much left but the jacket as we excpected..... I shot a 115 lb doe at 190....same result. 2 drt deer a strong conclusion cannot be drawn....but it sure shows promise.....Quick twist and heavy bullets turn the swift into a whole different animal........

A friend of mine has a Cooper with that twist. Special order. The problem he has is thathe wanted a repeater for varmit hunting.
If you seat the heavy bullets to magazine length it shoots between 3 and 4 inch groups at 300 yards. If he seats them out to lands it shoots 1 inch or less at 300. So much for the repeater part. Something to consider if you are doing a build. ED K
