I have a partial box of Scirocco I in .277 130 grain I want to mess with and am wondering if there is anything in particular these bullets tend to like or don't like in order to make them shoot, long jump/short jump, max. loads/lighter loads? I am unable to find much in the way of comparisons between them and the Scirroco II. What few reviews I did find between the 2 were a toss up having some people liking the I's and others preferring the II's. What are your findings if you have messed with either??

I used the .308 180-grain Scirocco Is and IIs in my .300 Weatherby for a while, and I didn't find much difference in the way they shot. Neither did I see any significant difference in terminal performance. I only used them on elk, and only took two average bulls, so it was not a large sample. Since the Weatherby had a lot of freebore, I loaded them as long as they would reliably cycle from the magazine. Both were legitimate sub-MOA bullets in my rifle.

I never shot the 1st-gen Sciroccos. My brother did. They were great on deer. He did have a single problem incident on a big old cow elk, using the 150's out of a 280. When the 2nd-gen bullets came out, he used the same load and seating and got the same groups, etc., out of them. From seeing the performance of the Scirocco II on several animals, I liked the 1st-gen bullets better.

Here are 3, 1st gen Scirocco 150 7MM's recovered from elk. I have not caught a second gen.



I don't have enough experience with the second gen to say if they are better on not as good as the first gen but I still buy about every box of first gen Scirocco's I find.

Man those things are wide, I can see how they would really tear things up. Should be a good whitetail bullet from my 270 should I decide to use them.

IME and that of Bill Hober, who owns Swift, they need to jump for maximum accuracy. Bill stopped by to visit after his last grizzly hunt up here and we got to talking about Scirrocos since that's what he used on that bear. He said best accuracy will usually come when they are seated down to where the ogive is just barely above the case mouth. I have only used them in the 270 win and visited with Bill and his son Tony so ymmv.

I plan on calling Swift to see what they recommend as a start for distance of jump.

Please post up what they tell you.......my only experience with is in 30 caliber & seating them close resulted in just so-so accuracy.

If memory serves, I think swift told me to jump the 338 .050.

I had to make them jump. Having to seat them deeper than I would a Nosler B/T or A/B.

Gen 1 Scirocco's kicked azz..Not a fan of the new ones.I always wondered why the hell they changed them to the "bonded".

The OG would stand up to 30-378 speeds and flat wreck chit,they had a heavy enough jacket to penetrate just fine..Honestly they penetrated just as much or more than the 2, the 2 builds too much frontal without shedding it..so you get minimal penetration without the frags wreaking havoc..just my .02

The magic formula with the SS, is to start them .050 off, then seat deeper as necessary.

Usually, .050 works, at least it has for me.

The SSII has a harder jacket, same construction as the SSI.

I believe the only difference is how the jacket is heat treated to make it harder.

I believe it was due to complaints about the all copper jacket fouling bbls.

My guess is tha the SSII doesn't open up as fast as the SSI.

That aint a guess, the s2 is an Aframe with a plastic tip, lots of guys like that, i dont..if i wanted absolute weight retention i'd shoot mono's exclusively,they've the corner on that market.

I thought the S1 wasnt bonded, and the S2 is, but you probly have it right,i really cant remember. just know i much prefer the older bullet.

I've been really impressed with the SI2 bullet over the years, at least the 180gr .308 version.
