I have a Winchester 94AE in 45 Colt that I am using to hunt deer, It does not feed the 325gr +P ammo I am trying to use. Since one option is to have it looked at/ modified to handle the ammo. Could I go one step further and have it modified to handle 454 or 460S&W ammo?
Do you know of a smith that does this?
Thanks

I talked to a 'smith in the Anchorage area quite a few years ago who messed with that (454 in 94) concept- and tried to talk me into that instead of the 303 based 44 Van Houten Souper I was considering at the time. Some years after that I bought a M94 45 Colt from a smithing dealer who had just installed a new new Colt barrel on a M94 he was selling as a used rifle. It had come to them in the 454 Casull configuration. They weren't going to resell it that way, nor could they tell me how much it had been fired in the upper pressure mode. I can say that it has provided much useful service with Blackhawk/Redhawk pressure loads in the 45 Colt configuration.
Contrary to what they appear to be, the M94 is quite a strong action. That does not make them suitable for pressures greater the what they are designed for however.
