Families of Newtown shooting victims sue gunmaker, seller

HARTFORD, Conn. � A law firm representing the families of nine of the 26 people killed and a teacher injured at the Sandy Hook Elementary School says it has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, distributor and seller of the rifle used in the shooting.

The negligence and wrongful death lawsuit asserts that the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle should not have been made publicly available because it is a military weapon unsuited for civilian use.

In addition to Bushmaster, the families have named Camfour, a firearm distributor, and Riverview Gun Sales, the store where the Bushmaster rifle was purchased in 2010. Messages seeking comment from the defendants were not immediately returned.

The 40-page complaint was filed in superior court in Bridgeport.

That is like suing an automobile manufacturer, the dealer and salesman because someone was killed in an accident

They may as well go after his teachers, the school he attended and the doctors that treated him as well as the drug manufacturer and pharmacy for any medication he as taking.

There will be a huge out of court settlement.

Quit trying to apply and semblance of logic to this thing. Ughh.

Or suing a hen because you got sick from eating one of her eggs after it "went bad."

Not only does Bushmaster need to not fall prey to this, but neither does the gun dealer.

Others in the industry need to have their backs in this as well. For if you knock one egg off the table, the others are next.

Don't see how it gets traction because the kid murdered the mother to gain access to the guns he used.

The rifle was legally bought by a person legally able to own it.

The thing is that this happens in our litigious society. I've seen an instance where the automobile manufacturer, the dealership, and the salesman were all involved in a lawsuit.

In this particular case it was a tragic accident where a young child was killed. The kid was left in a truck with the window slightly rolled down, he climbed up and put his foot on the armrest, hit the power window switch, the window rolled up, and he choked to death.

No one was truly at fault but the parents wanted revenge for their son's death.

Well I suspect somebody will have to open some records then.

This Law Suit won't go very far when it get to court if it isn't thrown out before.

The notion that these people could ever even bring suit against the manufacturer is ridiculous in the extreme.

What kinda car did he drive to get there?

I'm sure the lawyers know how ridiculous this is and their chances of winning.

This is just a publicity stunt by the antis.

I hope not... The whole thing should be tossed out before it even begins..

That, and a chance at a huge out-of-court settlement, and having their time/expenses paid for by Bloomberg, and being able to fundraise around it.

They win even if they lose.
