I used to know a guy who loaded LOTS of Hornets for a Contender. IIRC, he used IMR4227. He's just dip the case in the powder and scrape it off flush with the top. I think he used 45gr but I might be remembering wrong.

Academy Sports keeps 22hornet centerfire up at the customer service desk with all the other "rationed" 22 rimfire.
They think the Hornet is the same type ammo....
Because when I inquired, they said "yellow jackets, stingers, and hornets...all that ammo is 1 box limit" So any ammo named after an insect is subjected to a limit. LOL
No helping some.

I have loaded down to .32acp in pistols, and the .22's in a rifle. Now if you want to talk real reloading a guy i was talking to saturday does an average 40k a year of .40s&w, for his competitive shooting.

As many others have stated..................22 Hornet, a 45 gr TSX at 2922 is a very worthwhile endeavor.

222 is my mighty-mite but I'm intrigued with a 20practical and a 17Hornet.

I used to think people were stupid when they asked me to reload 22lr. Now I wish I knew how. Oops. I guess I misunderstood the OP. I thought he meant "what is the smallest round you would bother reloading" I'm normally pretty good at this stuff but could someone break down the word "you'd" for me?

I have loaded 25 acp with a #4 buck when I was a kid for killing raccoons in traps. Sold my 17 hornet and 17MK4 because they were a PITA to load. Still load 32 longs though

Hi The smallest cartridge, I reload, is 5mm rimfire, a local guy makes centerfire brass, for it and I shoot them in my contender. The guy is quite creative, he also builds firing pins to convert 5mm rimfire rifles into center fire. jim

Well, I thought a .25 ACP would be the smallest I'd load for, so I bought brass, dies, and bullets. That was a good while back and I still haven't loaded any.
.25/20 is the smallest I have loaded for.

I loaded some of those 5.7 x 28s for someone a couple of years ago...that was a bigger pain than loading for the 17 Fireball, that I did for another friend...

The 5.75mm Velo-Dog cartridge- if I had brass I would chamber a T/C barrel for it now.
I reload .32 S&W Long for a Remington Rolling block, so it is my smallest rifle cartridge.
