What works well as a substitute for heavy wool that will dry quickly in a heated tipi?
I'm not real interested in the latest in hunting fashion/camo patterns.Good mountaineering stuff in muted colors that would not be to noisy would be preferable

For that purpose it's hard to beat a shelled micropile like the Rab Vapour-Rise Light or Marmot DriClime. They are excellent pieces for keeping a comfortable microclimate next to skin and dry SUPER fast. The Driclime is cheaper and functionally about the same so you might want to go that route to try it and see if it fits your clothing system.

On trips where it's when, not if, I will get wet I live in my vapour rise lite. I've had one to the top of Rainier and on nearly all of my hunts.

The old borglite fleece like the Army "bear suit" jacket was made from. Dries in half the time of Polarfleece and is considerably lighter. The downside is the jackets only fit slender guys so size up. The do not compress well and take up a lot of pack space. Sportsman's Guide has them and they are on ebay of course.

Use a wash in water resistant treatment on regular fleece. Really, that stuff makes just about everything dry quicker by keeping water from soaking in to begin with. Keep the fleece away from sparks of course.

If its real cold I like my Ibex Backcountry pants which are Scholler Climawool.
