Does anyone have the weight of a standard long action Leupold/Redfield one piece base and steel Leupold rings?

I'm considering swapping to a Weaver base and lightweight aluminum ring on my 98 Mauser in 257 Roberts. I'm not a fan of the look if a one piece base.

I have two one-piece bases, one for a Model 70 that weighs 2.8 oz and one for a Model 700 that weighs 3.6 oz. The rings weigh 1.2 oz each. A complete set of rings with two-piece bases for a 700 weighs 4.8 oz, total.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mudhen, that does help.I may be able to lose 4 oz or so with some weaver aluminum bases and rings.

Anyone have a suggestion for affordable but clean looking aluminum weaver style rings?

Weaver Quad-locks. They're the ones with the 2 seperate ring caps on each ring. If using them, it's a good idea to use a feeler gauge or some other method of making sure all four ring cap screws on each ring are torqued down evenly.
The weight of a set of two Quad-locks is 2.2 ounces, including screws.

If an ounce or two is that important what do you do when you get you elk down? How do you select that elk shoot the Boone and Crockett or just shoot a cow so you don't have horns to pack?

I'll let you know when I tag my first elk in North Carolina. My reasoning is not only weight, but aesthetics as I really don't like the look of the one piece on this rifle. I plan on getting a side swing safety to allow lower mounting of the scope for a better cheek weld.

if you don't watch the ounces, pretty soon ya got a ten pound .308 to lug up the mountain.

and yes to the Talley UL.

I've already looked into the Talleys. They aren't contoured to go over the stripper clip hump which has not been ground down on my gun. It's hard to see in the pic. I'm sure they could be modified but if it's not done right you could end up with some major binding of the scope if the contour is not right.

I've seen where others have drilled and tapped another hole in the rear bridge and used a mini mauser rear weaver base that has a short(.375"?) spacing. That may be an option

It really depends on the rings. High steel rings will weigh a lot more than low's. The handful I've actually weighed were 5-7 oz depending. Compared to about 2.5 oz for Talley's. The DNZ's might work for you. Although they look a lot heavier the ones I've weighed were no more than 1/2 oz heavier than Talley's
