Not worth the effort...

I know this will be frowned upon by the turret twisters but I have no use for people that shoot at game much over 400yds away. Now, I know some people are better shots than others but it's the conditions that get a guy...not his ability. They always show you the 1 shot kills but never the ones that got away gut shot or w/their lower jaw shot off. powdr

So you have no use for competent people? Some that shoot better at 400 than the walmart warriors can shoot at 100?

I know what you are saying and I get it.

But don't assume that longer range shots miss, or wound any more so than a lot of short range ones.

I see gut shots on our deer lease every year. This year its been 4 times so far. And not a single one has been over 100 yards.... 2 have been under 75....

Mind you I"ll take what I"m capable of given the conditions and that can change from what rifle I have, and the conditions on a daily and minute by minute basis at times.... Lets just say when it passes 300 or so I'm a LOT more picky than just to shoot for shooting sake.

ANd to add... I personally think that the majority of folks have no business, even those that shoot a bit, shooting beyond 250 or 200 yards. To many variables there that they don't even understand.

There are 'shooters' and then there are 'hunters'! The average hunter won't possibly fire 20 rounds a year from their deer rifle whereas a shooter will damn nigh go broke buying powder, bullets, and primers!! There are some folks that can be accused of being both!!

I agree with you and Rost both.

IMO when it comes to deer hunters I 'think' there are more hunters than real shooters. Over the years I've been a member of 3 diff. deer leases and of all those members the 'huntes' FAR out number the real shooters.

At least that's been my observation over the past 35 yrs.

My personal limit is 400 yds because of the limited visibility so therefore that's as far as I've seriously practiced.
