I've wet my feet with a green mountain LRH 50 cal barrel on my renegade, paper patching my home poured WFN..now i want to up my game a tad.

I'm not interested in the new smokeless stuff, or even inlines at all.

Wanting to hear reports of guys with stuff like .451 Gibbs,Whitworths,Volunteers ETC.

I'm thinking about a Pedersoli Gibbs, anyone have one? I'd like to use it with nice verniers and be able to change it out with a Malcom 6x for some applications,i seen some of the mounts actually have modern MOA turrets on them, and that certainly piqued my interest.

Needs to be a true front stuffer,as I would like to legally hunt with it.

The Gibbs is my front runner, and they aint cheap so I thought I'd ask opinions as I aint real savvy when it comes to these specialty black powders. Other options?

Wonder if you could have a .45 cal 1:21" fast twist barrel built for your Renegade?

That is probly doable..Kinda wanting to change platforms all together tho. the Renegade is capable of much more than I initially gave it credit for,but the 1:18 .451 seems to be a more logical step to me.

One of the posters on another forum has had really fine results with his .451/465 grain flat nose bullets in a 1:20 twist .45 caliber Knight in-line. I've shot the same bullet from a 1:30 twist Renegade and got good results. But did not match the 1:20 twist results.

My vote would be for finding a Lyman Great Plains with a bad bore and having it relined to .451/1:20 twist. In fact, that is on my to-do list for 2015. The Great Plains has a classic look and fits me nicely at the shoulder (I have a .54 and a .50 Great Plains - both flintlocks).

Much to consider. I'm no stranger to rifle builds, and honestly trying to avoid it, i've had so many centerfire builds that didnt pan out while chasing the perfect rifle, so to me the 1.5-2k $ Gibbs might be an attractive option, cutting to the chase so to speak.

If relining is an ooption, maybe an Enfield .58 would be a good base to work off? Would be like a Whitworth or Volunteer. Track of the Wolf has .625" O.D. .45 liners in 1:17", 1:18", 1:20" & 1:22" twists.
