I like the 64 - really nice feel and balance to them. That and a Model 71, and you could hunt about anything.

Pat,
Did you get to shoot my 64 at Ed's spring gathering? If not, I'll bring it back if he has another! Got plenty ammo!!!! I think I'm gonna haul it down south in a few weeks. Just it case. wink

no, unfortunately not. Bring it next time smile

For some odd reason Winchesters have been sparse in my collection, though I do still have my original .45-90 High Wall. And a M94 in .44-40, which is kind of unusual smile

Not trying to be a Grinch, but my references show the 64 year of introduction was 1933. confused

Those sure are nice Pat!
One chambering you don't see too often is the .25-35. My father had told me he had originally ordered his 64 carbine in .25-35 but when it didn't arrive by deer season he took the .30WCF the dealer had instead. Pretty rare, probably Loggah's got one though laugh

Yes, and the other is the .219 Zipper. Held a genuine one in rough shape once. 26 inch barrel, bolt peep manufactured in the late 30s.

I always liked the 64's. A friend had one years ago in 30-30 that was his mother's elk rifle. When I handled his I had to have one. This is my Model 64 that I repaired after it had been attacked by Bubba with a hammer and grinder. The stock was shattered in the wrist and wood had been chiseled out around the lower tang-I have no idea why. The sear was ground to a knife edge. The forend was cracked and the magazine hanger and its mortise was mangled because Bubba hammered it out sideways. The forward end of the mag tube was mashed and belled where it had been hammered. The back end of the tube was burned where it looked like Bubba tried to weld it and then it had been ground down. There was probably more I am forgetting. Other than that the rifle is in good shape. Bluing is good and the original finish on the wood is mostly there. The bore is pristine and it shoots its favorite loads well. The rifle was made in 1939.

My wife Cheryl spent some time taking a few pictures of my 64's this morning ,here they are.

these two rifles are pretty early one is 1933 and 1 1935,both s/n in the 109xxxx s/n range. The upper one is in 30 WCF,the bottom one with the killer wood is 32 ws.They have the slim forends. the next picture is of later rifles they are all 30-30 cal. and the bottom two are "THE DEER RIFLE" meaning deluxe models.

I've never seen one in person either. Probably a good thing, my bank account couldn't stand the beating!

What years were the zippers produced in the 64s. What I could find out it was from 38-41. Is this correct?
