skip the SST's, I had one "blow up" on a close first time I ever used them, never again.

Okay y'all talked me into it 25-06 it is . The only reason I haven't shot more deer with it is it's a pretty nice gun at least to me and I don't want to beat the wood up its a model 70 classic sporter an my 243 is an abolt composite stalker. So I will take my 25-06 and my DPMS 243 lite hunter .

And of course I'm speaking of the 270 Winchester.

Yep. Sell 'em both!

Use the .243 and 100gr Hornady BTSP's - because I just picked one up and would like to know how it works on mule deer......the thing is very accurate on paper, but I'll have to wait until next season to see what it does on game.

Seriously, I've been shooting the 85 TSX in my .243 and it works real good.

I'm not a fan of the SST, so it would be any thing other than it unless I were shooting varmints.

I personally use my 243 and 80 gr TTSX.

Why not both? Take turns and do your own research. What could be more fun?

I'd take whichever one I shoot best offhand. .25 pokes a little bigger hole potentially spewing more blood.

The bullet is more important than the headstamp. But given equal bullets, I'd rather have a 120 from a 25, than a 100 from a 243.

I've shot a few whitetails with a .243 and a few whitetails with a . 25-06. Both worked fine, killed them all. But, I would easily pick the .25-06 over the .243 because it throws more lead at them.

25-06 for me as well, my 243 brass has been necked up to 260rem though that might work too. whistle

Having a 243 with which I have killed black bear, sheep caribou and moose, over the last 40 years, and having foolishly sold a .25-06 with which I killed more than 20 caribou in a 3 year span there is no question in my mind.

.25-06 using 117/120 grain bullets.

Nobody has mentioned it yet, but since you're hunting in Texas I'd take the .25-06. I remember reading (here IIRC), that the .25-06 is hugely popular in TX, so why not blend in with the locals---------or at least get off on the right foot with 'em. wink

A .25/06 handloaded with a 100gn Barnes TTSX is ready for just about anything you can reliably hit. The next step up is a big jump and there is not much underneath that offers benefit.

Both will work well. Season is closed most places, so I assume you mean next year or are hunting manged land. If so I would load the 25-06 with plain old Hornaday interlocks. The SST worked fine in the .280 but have more confidence in the standard version for more consistent performance.

The 25 seems to have more juice to it but the paper ballistics don't show much difference. Even so W Tx Mule deer are very solid animals going about 200 lbs. live weight, sometimes larger.

Can I ask what exactly you bought the 25-06 for? If not this, then ? ? ?
