I have a Remington 700 Long range 7mm Remington Magnum(26 inch barrel) and wanting to Load some Hornady 162 grain A Max in a range of 2900 to 3000 fps.I dont own a chrono
Never loaded for the 7magnum.

Which powder would MOST LIKELY meet my specs for velocity and provide best accuracy?

Several powders will work well. IMR7828, Reloder 22, Ramshot Magnum, to name a few.

Good evening Mr. Sisk, and IMR 7828 is a good place to start.

craig -- I've 7 RMs for several years and for MY use 4350 has served me well but I've not used them or 4350 for the bean fields.

I agree with Mr. Sisk. Also H 1000 might be considered.

I would also consider the slow burning 'extreme' powders for more consistency in real cold weather. Altho I've not used them there have been many good reports from reliable sources here on the 'fire'.


I have an Oehler 33 and if you are ready before HOT weather maybe we could get together and check your loads. Something to keep in mind.

H4831 works for my 7 mag.

Amen.....that and RL22 make my 7RM's sing.

4th point,

Hunter's a little fast-burning for the 7mm Magnum. It'll work OK with lighter bullets, but even with 120's I've gotten much better results with Magnum.

Have a good deal of R22 here, but I'm still anxiously awaiting R23

I have lots of H 870 and it is accurate and fast, and a little dirty.

Easy to load for to, most of the older books had lo to high loads about 2 grains apart.

Out of several powders I tried in my rifle it was the only one that was accurate and fast.

RS Magnum worked extremely well for me in a couple of 300 Win Mags where H1000 and Retumbo were too slow. Got the tip on Magnum from you a few years back and it was great advice.

Is this new RL26 supposed to be the burn rate equivalent of RL 25?

I try to keep several different powders on the shelf. If I'm in a hurry, Ramshot Magnum is the first powder I'll try. If I'm going to load several hundred rounds for a customer, first powder I'll try is Magnum. But nowdays I have to use whatever powder I can find.
Over the years I think I've used about everything in 7 mag. 4350 of whatever brand, and most everything slower, will be right at home in 7 mag.
I'll thread creep a little here.....I've had good luck with WLRM primers, Ramshot Magnum, 160 grain Partitions.
