I am considering rebarreling a Rem Model 7 S/S action to 25-308 or 25-284. Will it work???

Seems like the 25-308 would be very simple with little or no other modification to the action. The 25-284 seems simple also, but I know the case diameter is larger. Would the magazine rails need to modified (enlarged for proper feeding? How difficult might that be? What issues would I face with 25-284 cartridge overall case length into the Model 7 magazine?
Thank you

I wouldn't do either but I would build a 250Ackley Improved. More room to seat your bullets out, just as good of velocity, and a real killer of medium game. The 90, 100, and 110AccuBond are all great bullets. 3250fps w/the 85gr TTSX, I shoot the old 90gr X but the 110gr AB seems to be tailor made for the 250AI.powdr

can't totally answer your question about the 25/284 but I made a 35/284 on a 700 action and had no feed rail problems, the thing just plain feeds. the magazine box is a little short when seating bullets heavier than 225grains.

I had a 25/284 built on a model 7 that started as a 260. It took a fair amount of feed rail work, and a new and modified follower to get it to feed at all.

My suggestion is get some dummy rounds and try it before deciding.

I have a 250AI and 284 on M700's. I found that even with a wyatts box the 284 was pretty tight in the 700 from a coal standpoint. Of course the 25 cal should be better. As far as feeding went I didn't have an issue with a 284.

The beauty of the 250AI is that you have lots of COAL freedom even with a standard box and it will run neck and neck with the souper. The 250AI feeds fine as well.

I must say that I have a fondness for the 250AI. For me its the sweet spot for a reasonable range whitetail cartridge. I shoot mostly 100's and I feel like its enough bullet to get things done even if I am not quite perfect in my shooting yet its mild of recoil, and doesn't drink powder like some of the fast 25's.
I have been using Lapua brass (22-250necked up) and have gone 10+ reloads on some cases. And of course I trim just once every 5 shots thanks to the sharp shoulder and minimal taper. Of course it doesn't hurt that both of my 250AI's have been accurate and easy.

If you go in the Souper direction - I have a 25 Souper seating die that needs a new home.

Thanks. The 250AI is on my short list.

Does anyone have any experience with the 25-308? It should feed fine but curious about the OAL with 120gr or bigger bullets.

And Bart: I'll keep the die in mind.

If you want to get answers on the 25 Souper aka 25-308 suggest you contact RockyRaab as he did quite a bit of work with that caliber. Cheers and Happy Holidays. NC

25/308 will work out best. I have 2 and love them...I have lots of data and also done a few for others. CH tool and die will be your best source for quality die sets.
