I have only shot one with my .280 RCBS improved, and it was a complete pass through. Distance of 80 yards +/-. miles

We have used the 120 NBT on deer out of a .280AI at 3325 fps with great results from as close as 25 yards to right at 300 yards. Never have had one stay inside a deer and I have hit shoulders, necks, heads, and lungs.

Yep, that's what I ended up using exclusively in my .280 Ackley for deer and antelope. The 120 Ballistic expands nicely and penetrates well ... at least in my experience, it is a superb bullet.

Oh, I should mention that I was in Alberta hunting mules and whitetail when a four-year old moose showed up. I put a 120 under his chin and he hit the ground most sincerely dead. It took the second cervical vertebrae out the back of the moose's neck.

I also killed two 6X6 bull elk with the 120 in my 7-08 Ackley. One bullet apiece and both bang flops. I recovered one of the bullets (the only 120 I've ever found) and it was opened to .75" or so, lead was like soldered to the jacket and the weight was in the area of 85-grains.

If I was heading out the door to kill deer and/or antelope today, I'd grab my .280 Ackley and use 120-grain Nosler Ballistics.

Hope this helps.

Blessings,

Steve

PS. Merry Christmas

I used that combination exclusively for five or six years. And, I killed at least a handful of deer year. Ranges were from 60 yards to about 400. I can only remember one not exiting. It was about a 150 yard shot and the bullet angled through the spine and ended up just under the offside hide. I shot through plenty of shoulders with them also.

One Monta mule I remember was a big old bugger. I was slowly climbing a hill and happened to look at a lone juniper tree about fifty yards ahead of me.

The right side of the tree had a big mule deer head peering at me. I could see the face and the 170-ish 4X4 plus eyeguards rack.

There was no way to get a rest, so I did my best imitation of the off-hand position I used in smallbore for so many years.

When the duplex was on the end of his nose, the .280 barked and the deer head disappeared ... and then he rolled down the hill right at me. It was really cool; end over end and he stopped about twenty feet in front of me.

Karen said, "Sweetie, now that is something you don't see every day." And she was right.

The 120 hit between the nostrils and exited the medulla oblongata. No busted skull, just a simple in-and-out and a sincerely dead wonderful buck.

Ya gotta love the 120Ballistics.

Blessings,

Steve

Thanks for the comments
Will either use these or long range 150 ABs
The 120s are probably easier to find
