For quite awhile whenever I have purchased a new handgun, it would come with an empty spent shell casing fired from the gun and the written note that it was done for record keeping in certain states.
Read that this is done for data base development regarding law enforcement, but is it the shell casing marks (ejector/extractor/firing pin) that is photocopied or the groove and land markings with the bullet fired from the gun?

They keep a second casing and a fired slug.
America needs to understand that our troops are not 'disposable'. Each represents a family; Fathers, Mothers, Sons, Daughters, Cousins, Uncles, Aunts... Our Citizens are our most valuable treasure; we waste far too many.

It's for Maryland. When you register the gun, they take the shell casing.

I believe the inclusion of the empty shell casing is fully explained in your manual - but I've never read one.

Toss it. MD is a liberal POS. You need to turn the case in to them, other states do not require it.

Punch the primer out before you give it to them
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

new york was a state that required the case and info but the COBIS system in ny was proven to not solve a single crime since it started which i believe was 1994 but don't quote me on year and was since been discontinued.ny no longer requires it.

If you're in MD, give them the case and then polish your chamber and firing pin
One shot, one kill........ It saves a lot of ammo!

Daughter #1 will soon be moving from the hellhole called MD back to CO, Thank goodness.
The pistol she is getting under the tree will be kept in my safe until the move is complete.
As to my handguns, I tend to keep the casing. Don't really know why other than possible impact on resale value.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

I love it! After buying 50 Ruger .44 Mag revolvers, I now have a free box of shells minus the powder, primer and bullets... I wish!

Use the provided case as a dummy round.
There is no way to coexist no matter how many bumper stickers there are on Subaru bumpers!
